Array New Birthcontrol device discovered by Greenpeace - the IPhone Just saw this bit on TechRepublic. http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/tech-news/?p=1395
I guess that the question now is: Is it cheaper to use conventional BC formats, or can I scrap my wife's perscription and just invest in a decent IPhone for her? "Rub her feet!" - Lazarus Long, Time enough for Love, Robert A. Heinlein "Never moon a werewolf."

Array What a load of ****. Organizations like Green peace and PETA only do themselves a disservice when they put out false allegations. It's not like Greenpeace had any credibility before, but things like this helps wash away what little residue they have.
Maybe if you were eating the plastics, it would be a big deal.
And no, eating it won't make you sterile either. Although it might horribly deform any future children you would have. -

Array I doubt that you could seriously impact your reproduction ability by even eating the plastic. Your body would first have to metabolize the synthetics. Its more likely that you'd just crap it out, like you would a plastic fork, or playdough. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -

“The phthalates found in the headphone cords are classified in Europe as ‘toxic to reproduction’ because of their long-recognized ability to interfere with sexual development,” Greenpeace scientist David Santillo said in the report.
Q: How many scientists does it take to make one circular argument?
A: As many scientists as it takes to make one circular argument. -

It's why you're not supposed to cook food in some types of plastic containers. -

Array That's because plastics mime estrogen and mess things up. I'm a believer in "Tying the Knot." tubal ligations for women and tubal ligations for men. Tubers for ERA. -

Array Shrug iphone makes perfect sense as BC to me. Guy spends all his time on iphone, women gets annoyed. Hence Birth control. -

Array There wouldn't be enough of the hormone in the iPhone to do anything to you. Washing Nalgeen bottles in the dishwasher causes them to relece trace amounts of estregen too, but no one ever says that drinking out of a Nalgeen can cause you to be come steril. When love bites, be sure to bite back.

Phthalates interfere with sexual development (prenatal testes development in rat pups, for example), not cause sterility. The title is misleading. "Can iPhones make you sterile?" No, but they could cause defects in young children, just like Nalgene bottles.
And "trace" amounts can often be dangerous without being toxic. Something doesn't have to kill you to have an effect. Or to affect your children.
There have been sweeping changes (and ongoing arguments) to what endocrinologists consider safe and unsafe doses. I personally don't care, because my testes have descended, but someone like a pregnant woman should be very cautious about that sort of thing.
I still say there's no danger of sterility or birth defects from the iPhone though. Similar Threads -
