| Just so everyone knows - no more low line attacks in sabre. Reffing was WAY against the Americans from what I heard. (I'm sure you already knew they started enforcing the new FIE rules Cap't) I again admit - this was heresay. I couldn't afford to be there in person. |

| 1/4 of the fencers who lost in the 32 were from the USA in the MS results Brad posted. Is this a great thing (32 gets points, etc) or a not so great thing (16s are a LOT better)? |

Early on at the just-completed World Championships, I saw a couple of replay officials plainly invoking the "low hand" rule. But by the end, the US saber fencers were being told by team officials that the low hand rule was no longer in vogue at the FIE, and wouldn't be taken into consideration anymore. So, there is some confusion as to what the fencers should do.
That being said, the reffing in Poland could indeed have been "way against" the Americans, anyway, even without the low hand rule. However; the batch of US fencers in this WS event is fairly inexperienced. Some were rookies in overseas competitions.
There's always a learning curve getting a feel for how international refs call compared to the NAC refs, even though some of them are the same folks. It's not always blatant favoritism for non-US fencers being displayed, but sometimes it sure looks/feels like it.
And, as they say, just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean no ref is out to get you!

8 of the 32 fencers eliminated in the 64 were American, however. Presumably what KD5MDK meant....

-B | It might take several posters to figure out what I mean, but oiuyt got it.
Sorry, yesterday I was actively reffing from 9:30am to 7pm. |
