| NAC-B Transportation I went to the USFA Athlete package, and they had some info regarding transportation in Dallas. They list the cab fare from the airport to downtown Dallas as approximately $40. I thought, geez, thats $80 round trip, plus tips. Then I noticed they had the DART link. I clicked on this and entered DFW airport and the Adams' Mark hotel as the destination. Here is the result:
Trip Route(s) Depart Arrive Duration Transfer Walk
1 801, 408, 044 12:55p 3:26p 2h31 2 0.07 miles
2 801, 408, 044 12:55p 3:26p 2h31 2 0.07 miles
3 801, 310, 202 1:01p 3:33p 2h32 2 0.02 miles
2 1/2 hours and 2 transfers using DART to get from the airport to hotel? Ay yi yi.
The Adams Mark Hotel's website said this: "With DART light rail stopping at the hotel, you are just a short ride from Dallas' sports and convention complexes, tourist attractions and nightlife."
So, curious, I entered the Adams Mark-to-the-Convention-Center route into the DART website and got this result:
Trip Route(s) Depart Arrive Duration Transfer Walk
1 031, 008 1:18p 1:32p 14 1 0.33 miles
2 001, BLUE 1:08p 1:24p 16 1 0.24 miles
3 050, 026 1:10p 1:28p 18 1 0.27 miles
So according to DART, you are looking at anywhere from 14-18 minutes with 1transfer, plus walking about 1/3 of a mile to cover the 1/2 mile distance from the hotel to the venue? Huh. I then called the hotel, whose concierge told me that the Pearl St. DART station is right behind the hotel and the convention center is "5 stops down, taking about 12 minutes". But when I pressed him, he admitted he never actually rode it, so wasn't really sure about the transfer or actual time. Another huh. The Hotel did tell me that self-parking is $12/day and valet $18/day. Convention Center parking is also $10/day. That would add up to $22/day total for parking a car.
I do like mass transportation when it is convenient. But, with all of the above, do I rent a car, or do I suddenly learn to be more patient? |

| Sorry, but this is Texas. There is no state income tax, and education (.. you know ) is of high quality. Then you have Medicaid funding, roads, ... etc. You get the picture. Public transportation is at the bottom. Texas is big, and Dallas is one of those sprawling spread-out cities. You might need to take a cab or rent a vehicle. Keep in mind that before W did the country, he first did Texas.

| Try Supershuttle Did you check into using the Supershuttle service?? I believe they run at DFW and Love Field and a quick glance seems to show that the price is about $17.00 per person, if you have a larger party you can actually save more. Ends up about the same as the cab I guess, but you can reserve on-line. For info go to SuperShuttle.com. |

Hopefully it'll be posted in a readable color.
Confirmed entries will probably be posted in about a week.

I do like mass transportation when it is convenient. But, with all of the above, do I rent a car, or do I suddenly learn to be more patient? | As I've stated in the past, in multiple threads, transportation in Dallas is going to be fun.
For your situation, take the Supershuttle from airport to hotel. Take the DART light rail from the hotel to the Convention Center. I've ridden it to test it out and its actually quite doable. There is not a transfer. Check out the light-rail maps on the DART website.
DO NOT WALK FROM THE HOTEL TO THE VENUE. DOWNTOWN DALLAS IS NOT A PEDESTRIAN-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT!
Aside. No one uses DART to get to and from the airport. This is not the fault of DART! Its primary function is not to serve out of town visitors, it is to bring workers to downtown from the suburbs. The connection from the airport to DART is via a bus. If you can time it right, it CAN work, but, really, its more trouble than its worth. DART has been trying to extend its service to the airport, but its the airport that has been fighting the idea (don't want to give up parking and taxi fees?). Hey, even cities with GREAT public transportation don't always have good airport linkages - look at Washington, DC.

| For me, I am driving. I got nicer but cheaper hotel. I would then be parking at the Convention center parking for $ 8.00 entry.
