| my epee is rusting!!! hi -
obviously, my epee is rusting and i'm not happy. my foils seem to not rust to the same extent and i have no clue why. it's a new weapon, but last night i took it out of my bag and it was all rusty! it doesn't stay in the bag except the 20 minute ride home, then it lives in my closet which isn't humid at all. and mostly the forte was rusty, nearer to the tip was still pretty clean.
does anyone have any ideas/prevention/whatever for me?

Works as well as anything.

does anyone have any ideas/prevention/whatever for me? | LP, Absolute, etc. sell abrasive cleaner block (cleaning corrosion block, polish stone, or whatever they call it.) It should remove the rust off the blade pretty well.
Try not to put weapons and wet uniform (or glove, mask, etc.) together in the bag. Use a PVC tube over your blade might help.
Of course, the best way to go is buy FIE Maraging blades; Maraging steel is highly resisting to corrosion due to the alloy makeup.

| Although even then they're not rustproof. At the moment I have an FIE BF blade and FIE LM blade that have what you might call a considerable amount of rust.

| Gave the items in the attached image a go a little while back and was very pleased with the results (especially the el cheapo on the left). Because they're soft, they get into the recessed areas on epees and some saber blades quite nicely and they do a rather spiffy job with very little effort. Will have to remember to try the candle trick next time I polish up a blade, just for grins. |

| You've probably already been told this a million times; idk, I didn't read all of the replies. So I'll say it again. SNAD YOUR EPEE AND KEEP IT IN A SEPERATE COMPARTMENT FROM YOUR SWEATY GEAR. Twenty minutes a couple times a week is still enough for it to rust. Do it in one of thos enifty little sword bags? It'll still rust a little, but much, much less than when you just stuff them in your bag.

Can you get in trouble for abusing foils?

| I have taken to putting in a bunch of those silica gel packs in my bag as well.
I also remove them immediately from the bag when I get home, between the two, that's limited my need to clean the rust off considerably. I suspect I'll be getting a weapon bag sometime in the near future though, the rust is annoying (and if I miss some, gets on my uniform). |

| Really? Silica? I'd have never guess that would work. I'll have to try it. Definitely.

| Keep in mind that silica gel will eventually become saturated and less effective. Especially if your bag is not air tight. |

Yeahhhh... I have a soft bag, not a plastic one. How long would they even last for me?

| So you just use those little packs that come in shoeboxes, or what? And if that is what I need, about how many?
