Array Woolite is evil! Just a discovery I made recently. It appears that Woolite is very hard on elastic. I thought I was prolonging the life of my whites by using it. Now I need to replace the elastic on my pants since they hang loose instead of bunching at the knees as they are supposed to. Fail until you succeed!

My experience has been that the dryer is the hardest on elastic. Also how often do you wash them? Do they can a chance to dry out after fencing? -

Array Maybe...I googled it and apparently the problem is that the woolite has lanolin (the oil from natural sheep wool) in it to protect wool fibers in sweaters and such. However, this lanolin is sticky and doesn't rinse away completely, trapping some of the soap on your uniform. The trapped detergent then continues to do its stuff on the elastic bits, drying them out and shortening their life.
I personally use sensitive-skin laundry detergent for my uniforms and have had good results with that. I guess it rinses out more completely. -
Also be careful not to use any thing that is used as apre wash for deodorising cloth like OXY???? this attacks dynema which is used in most of the 800 newton clothing causing the material to shrink. -

Ohh crap, my wife uses Oxyclean. No wonder my jacket and pants feel snug now. When I first started fencing my gear seemed to fit well, now my pants hug my nuts and my jacket is tight in the chest. -
Woolite is good for lames though, right? (\ /)

Array I've been using Ivory Snow in place of Woolite when washing my lamé. No problems observed. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array Oxyclean is a lame material killer.
