Array Remenyik Open Just curious how many fnetters are planning on attending the Remenyik Open in Chicago, October 20-21st? -

Array I am! I have attended every year since 1990... and it is my second favorite event of the year (NYAC's Epeepalooza and Mercury Cup series is simply the coolest).
I used to do both foil and epee, but now need to conserve all my energy just for the ever-strengthening epee event. -

Array I hope I get a chance to fence you then in the Epee event!

Array Yes, from their AskFred information, it looks like the top 8 in each event get swords, daggers, etc. -
Are there going to be any vendors at the event? -

It's not like a vendor booth at nationals or anything.
I'll be there for men's foil.
There's usually a large sword for first, a smaller one for second, axes for third, and daggers for 5-8. I may have second and third places mixed up. That's for every weapon, men's and women's. -

Array I love Mike Czarnik...haven't seen him in 15 years or so. We used to call him "Crab Man" because of his fencing stance & advance/retreat.
He convinced me to buy "Preparing the Mind" from him...it was a good book.
Also, When my first ever set of Knickers (TCA...what else) split up the middle (how embarrassing!) in Waukesha, WI, he was right there to sell me a new pair of American Fencing Supply knickers! Whew, was I releived! -

Array I've had to buy a few plastrons from him when I forgot mine, and a mask. He's a real life saver.
I've never seen him fence though. -
I may be there...
honestly I feel $35 is a little much for an event with so many people in it.
And I too have bought stuff from Czarnik :P. (\ /)

Array Will be there Saturday (along with 200 others) for the first time. What is the equipment check situation like there? Should I plan to get there early and wait in a long line or are they pretty good? -

Array I think $35 is a mighty good deal for an event that large.
Anyone know if someone will be there with jacket lettering capabilities? Originally Posted by Cookeit I may be there...

I highly doubt they will be lettering jackets... it isn't that kind of event. Think of it as the largest small event you will ever attend. -

Array I will be there directing both days. There will be a mask check, and there will be an armorer.
Men's foil is an A3 event this year as they are missing 3 A's to make it an A4.
Men's Epee is an A4
213 Fencers pre-registered for Saturday(121 for Men's Foil)
244 Fencers pre-registered for Sunday(129 for Men's Epee)
If everyone shows, this will be the largest Remenyik I can remember. It's a great event with grounded strips.
A couple of reminders for those who are coming to the event -
It's in the Sports and Aquatics Center. It can be very bright in the gym there in the morning, so I would hope for a cloudy day.
Remember to bring something to snack on, if you are so inclined as there are not food vendors there.
Good luck to everyone! -

Array It used to be held in Patten gym (back when they only got 60-70 in each event). The gym was roughly the size of my Manhattan apartment. I think they got roughly 12 strips, tight, in there... and if you went off the back of the strip on either end you basically went into the wall.
The new location is excellent... large and bright with plenty of room. Although with all the competitors this year it will likely be tight again. -

If you forget to bring your own and get desperate, there is a somewhat close source of food at Lisa's Cafe on the ground floor of one of the nearby dorms. Otherwise.... -
