Array Goffstown Fencing Goffstown fencing is on the map!
This past weekend at Concord fencing center, NH, Goffstown High school Fencing Club earned it's first medal in the Womans Foil E! Ariel won second place (out of four). I was very upset that I could not attend, so I do not have details... I myeslf was at the 9:00 Mixed Foil Open and placed 14 of 20, Ariel placing 20th (ouch). When I left she stayed and went on to win silver! Congratulations, Ariel, we're all very proud.
While we're on the topic of Saturday the 29th, I also wanted to say what I great morning of fencing that was. I had so much fun, and great job to all! "They are the Nazgul, Ringwraiths, neither living nor dead

I'm pretty sure that if you hadn't done so well against me, Stranger, I would have had a good shot at re-earning my "C." Oh well, you did great this past weekend. I look forward to seeing you at lots more competitions this year. CFC has one later this month, then the Granite State Open is the weekend afterward.
Oh, and don't scare us again like you did this past weekend!

BFO Ha ha! Oh but it was so much fun..
And as for the scare, it's not as though I intend for those kind of things to happen. If you didn't know, I have exercise induced asthma and a doctor's note. My asthma has gotten incredibly better, however... and this hasn't happened in some time.
I'm gonna try to make it to Concord, though. "They are the Nazgul, Ringwraiths, neither living nor dead

Is this really a thread about medalling in a four person event?
I usually try to avoid being obnoxious, and I'm not necessarily saying that it wasn't a great personal accomplishment for her. There are certainly groups of 4 fencers that I'd be happy to get second among. But I mean...really? Top three out of four puts you on the map? -

Folks...this is a young, new fencer doing a great job of running a young, new club. I applaud any results which make them feel good. It's good for the sport. Array heh, thanks BFO, but yes, We're a tiny High school club that lacks proper equipment, space, time, and funding. We fence in the hallways two hours a week with old, donated, mostly broken equipment. To be able to get this far is great for us.
I'm sorry to bother you map, mrbiggs. "They are the Nazgul, Ringwraiths, neither living nor dead

I wouldn't be surprised if they improved further and got even better results, and good for them. I'm not discouraging them competing or trying, and I'm not saying it's not the best result yet. However, to go on a fencing forum and announce that they are on the map because one of their fencers didn't DFL in a 4 person E and Under tournament is just a little bit silly. I'm sorry to bother you map, mrbiggs. Did I say that? No, I did not. I think that you should set your sights high and that you've got every ability to repeat this result and get better ones. I can tell you that I was ecstatic that I almost won a DE at the first tournament I went to (coincidentally, also an E and Under). But did that put me on the map? Not really. Did I post about it on a fencing forum? No, I did not. Is this question-answer format of making an argument slightly annoying? Yes, but I feel that it's effective in making myself clear.
Also, it may sound harsh, but this forum would be quite crowded every time a fencer reached a new level of competitive results, wouldn't it? -

Array Well then excuse me for having a little pride in my club that has been non USFA for God knows how long, has been kicked in the *** by our own school, and is just starting to go somewhere. I am pretty effing excited, now. So what if there was four people? Does that matter to us? No, because it's a huge turn around for our fencer and our club and I'm very proud of both. So Thank you, mrbiggs for your undying support of new clubs and new fencers. I'll consult you next time I feel the need to post our results, to see if they're good enough to be concidered real. Array First off, congratulations. It's always good to hear about people achieving personal bests. Although I am kind of with MrBiggs on this one, unless it is something really big, a thread is a little unnecessary. There is a journal section though, where a lot of people (myself included) make entries like this. RebelFencer's Awesome Quote of the Week:

Array Well, thank you all. I'm glad it's irrelevant to display the results of a new club's kick-off but it is perfectly wonderful for someone to post a thread about getting their license [ Drivers License(?) ]. This is indeed a wonderful website.

This is indeed a wonderful website. I wasn't going to explain myself any further because I felt you were misunderstanding me on purpose, but my self control is limited.
You weren't just posting results. (Which, by the way, would go in the results forum.) You were announcing that medalling in a four person event puts your club on the map. I said that though it might be an excellent result, it is a little bit of a silly thing to announce that your club is suddenly a contender because someone did not DFL at an event. Do you see where I'm coming from there?
Your sensitivity and sarcasm aren't really helping your cause. Get off your high horse and actually read what we're saying to you. I'm not attacking your skill, so stop feeling sorry for yourself. No one cares.
Oh, and there are many factors that contribute to the worth of a thread, and relevancy to fencing is not one of them in this part of this forum. -

Array Excuse me for being hyper-defensive, I'm being serious this time, I just take things a little too personally. I'll promise to cool it if you'd please reailze that this is infact a relevant topic to post on this webiste, granted I did not post it in the correct section (it's been a while since I've posted), seeing that I don't post our club's every result, or even my results regularly. It was a one time exitement that I wanted to share.

I'm not the kind of person who posts my results either, that's just my way.
I can understand, personally being from an underfunded and shoved around club in a school, how it feels when you go out and kick some ass (even in a small event) to get completely ignored by your school. You want to kind of find somebody who cares about your results, and I'm sure Stranger, who found this site, thought it would be a good area to display this.
It's not like this was put in the main fencing discussion forum. It's in the water cooler. If the only thing that you are taking offense to is that Stranger said it put them on the map....honestly, who is being hypersensitive here? If it doesn't matter to you, why are you even posting? Does it hurt your ego or something? I can't see how this would make you any less of a fencer, mrbiggs, by saying their club went to an event and did well for the venue and got noticed.
People have gotten props for far less on this forum, let Stranger bask in her glory and hopefully move up and onward. The Angel of Death Strikes!
