Frances Lame FIE Blade I recently purchased a FL FIE Maraging Blade. When it arrivied, I noticed it has a date stamp of 1996 - should I care? I am not fencing internationally and only purchased a maraging blade becuase I was told it would last longer.
Thanks for your help! -

Array It's fine. You don't have to worry.
Even if you did fence internationally, the FIE has decided to remove the 5 year age limit on blades recently, I believe. So you're good. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Array You should also check if it is actually an FIE blade. France Lame was noted for making blades that were very similar, but were not FIE. Some items to look for, if it says FIE-N, or inside the circle FN instead of FL or a large FIE. None of these are FIE. Also if a blade rusts, I would question if it was a Maraging blade.
