question about some foil blades...

im thinking about getting a new foil blade...the tip area of my stm snapped off(regular, not fie...figures, eh?)
so i want to buy a new blade and was thinking about running over to blade and getting either a vniti or a bf. i have a vniti already and the feel but how's bf? can anyone give me some advice on bf blades and what the diff between the blue and silver models are? anyone who knows about vnitis and bfs, please give me some recommendations about the two!

Vniti's are considered to be the most durable foil blade on the market, while BFs vary from batch to batch in both durability and balance.

If you're going in to check them out in person, I don't think the feel of the blades needs to be discussed.

I've heard a very respected armorer say the blues are a little whippier and easier to kink, on average due to a difference in the tempering. I've also heard the Paul brothers state there is no difference between the blues, golds, and whites.

My son has been using BF foil blades for several years once he "grew" out of the less expensive Prieur (sp?) blades. I have to concur with Mr. Moore from Madison. Vniti's are considered more durable, BF's do vary, but seem to be less whippy than Vniti's. The only real difference between BF blue and BF white (silver) are the silver blade lacks the bluing applyed as a preventitive against oxidation. The bluing is a low temp surface application and could not affect the temper. Please note I do lots of armory work, but am not a fencer. I am passing on the information from my son as far as the "feel" of the blades. Hope this helps

I agree with Koan about the whippiness of the BFs. The few I have tried have been around as whippy and flexible as my Vniti Max blade, with slight differences depending on the blade. They also seem a bit lighter feeling than a vniti. From my experience, fencing with one blade or the other is rather similar.

Blades are all prefference. A BF blade will be alot more stiff than a Viniti, but if that is what you want go for it. if you prefer to be able to flick(even a little, sence all FIE blades are now stiffer, in an attempt to get rid of the flick) i would say viniti. Personally i belive they are both verry high quality blades.
