| Washing 800N uniforms? I recently purchased a 800N uniform and the manufacturer neglected to include washing instructions. Would I wash it the same way as other uniforms(no bleach, cold water)?
Another thing, the weight is a bit heavy...I am wondering if the more expensive brands and/or selection of material(to stretch, or not to stretch, that is the question), decrease the weight...and still pass the tests. |

| Countertime, Cool water, air dry for the fencing gear. As for lightness you cant go past the soudet FIE stuff, its brillant.

I agree with Zelda, my FIE Soudet stuff is extremely comfortable.
The German stuff feels more substantial, but is hotter.
You might also want to look at Negrini and Carmimari FIE stuff. They too seem lighter than the Allstar/Uhlmann.
I have a Negrini FIE plastron, and it's actually lighter than the Soudet (which my son has) and is better made.

| I've never worn the Soudet or any of the others, buy my Uhlmann plastron is incredibly light. The rest of my Uhlmann is a touch heavy, though.

| I've also been using Soudet FIE uniforms for the last 6 years, and like them- in addition to being fairly light, they also have a knappy inside layer woven into the fabric, which helps wick away sweat. One issue is that Soudet has no distributor in the U.S. (I've bought mine at international competitions, either in the U.S. or overseas). The Negrini uniforms are available from American Fencers Supply, and direct from Negrini. There's also the PBT 'Superlight' FIE uniforms, which I've never worn but look quite nice.

| Cold water, air dry. I think pretty much any non-bleaching detergent will do, I use Cheer. The main thing that messes with them is velcro ripping up threads and making the fabric pill. Cover all the hook areas of velcro fasteners. |

| I have to say the pbt superlight is the best I've ever used. It's like wearing a t-shirt and the thing really breathes.
The budpest is bulkier but more flexible.
