Array Hey folks Hey everyone, name's Heavenguard.
I just joined a fencing class at my university's athletic centre. I've been meaning to for years since I started school there, but my schedule never worked out. I've only just begun, but I think this is definitely something I could get into. We're learning foil in this class, but I think I might want to get into epee or sabre later instead.
The coach said I should consider joining the women's team, but my joints are in no shape for me to be doing this competitively. I actually probably shouldn't be doing this casually either ... but ... well, you're only young once! -

Never give into old age or you become like inquartata, and I'll tell you now, that's bad.
Hai and welcome to Fnet. I find you to have wonderful taste, and you know what also has wonderful taste? The 516k thread....

You're right, you're only young once. So keep on fencing! And don't let Neinteen fool you, épée is where it's at.
Again, welcome! -

Do you guard Heaven? Lemme will when I Die.
I'm on a break to learn fencing
Join the team! You're young forever! Never give into old age or you become like inquartata, and I'll tell you now, that's bad.
Haha, I guess I'll find out about Inquartata soon enough But I actually have issues with my joints being painful and (less often) swollen for reason still unknown. I just decided "screw it, I wanna have fun", so that's why I joined the class. But as for actually joining a team to compete, I have to really think about that. *lunges* "Ach! My knees!" *gets hit*
... but I really want to! -

WHO HAS SUMMONED ME?!
Cough. Bah. Damned sulfur. Didn't used to bother me so much. Cough.
Well, THAT'S completely spoiled the grand entrance.
I think I might want to get into epee or sabre later instead.
Then you will be either damned or blessed, in that order. ( If you are doing foil you are merely in Purgatory for the nonce. Some people like it there, apparently. I couldn't wait to escape, myself. )
Welcome a-board.

Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Speaking as someone who WAS young once, epee is easier on the joints and there is a powerful virtue in ibuprofen. Reality is the original Rorschach.

Array Well, I decided "What the heck?" and went for it and I'm going to join the team. I have some serious painkillers sitting on my shelf.
I do have a question, though. Is it legal for me to wear things like knee supports under my knickers in a competition? -
Senior Member
Array Good for you!
Yes.
I don't wear braces myself, but watching some folks peeling off knee supports, ankle supports, wrist braces, and elbow supports, and some tape here and there, you get the feeling that they are "bionic fencers". Reality is the original Rorschach.

Array Oh, yeah. you can wear any kind of support you want. I've even seen people wear big knee braces over the knickers, but not at a national comp. -

Array Awesome, that's great. I went in for my class yesterday with some supports on (I suppose they're technically not "braces"?), and my knees don't hurt today. (Where as they did last week sans supports.)
Thanks for letting me know
And I don't figure I'll be getting into any national competitions anytime soon, Lefty -
Yes you will, you're a champion!!!! Unlike lefty. Wow, I'm still third top poster... # Posts Per Day: 15.18 -

I'd start belting out my achievements, but that would expose my secret identity... -
I'll just do a search of your IP and get your last name, then search that under fencing competitions... Wow, I'm still third top poster... # Posts Per Day: 15.18 Similar Threads -
