The entry form for the competition will be sent out in the middle to late fall. Mitchell - please put this form on the USACFC website at the earliest convinience.
I do not have nor could I find any accurate contact information for Mt. Holyoke College,or Xavier University. Someone from NE needs to contact MHC and someone from the MFC needs to contact Purdue. Please let me know.
In order to satisfy the needs of our members I want to make clear the following so that everyone understands the procedure for the event. There will be no confusion this year;
01 There will be larger pools seeded by a committee from various regions. If there are 36 teams for example, we would have pools of 12 most likely.
02 Pools will be even in the number of incomplete teams
03 There will be an individual. We will have 9 compete per weapon as originally done at past events prior to IU. The formula (whether the same or different) TBA
04 We will use the direct elimination with all places fenced out starting in the 16; we have in place a format written by Laurie Schiller of Northwestern that will be used that meets our needs. It includes all details on the aforementioned points. Members will be given all formulas and policies, procedures, and a copy of the format after the DEC 15, 2007 deadline has passed to join the organization
05 There will be a written schedule of events emailed to all participants
06 The schedule may NOT be changed once it is published; events must begin and end the specified time in order to avoid problems of the past
07 There will be a professional bout committee and head referee in charge for the first time at our event. This will maximize referee and strip use, and minimize problems. This should make things run more efficiently
FYI I estimate the following teams will participate in the 2008 Championships; I request each school to confirm with me as I believe this event will be the biggest yet. I appreciate your prompt response in advance. It will help us do a better job organizing what is now the LARGEST gathering of collegiate fencers in the nation.
01 UNH
02 UMASS
03 Smith
04 Boston U
05 Tufts (M)
06 Cornell (M)
07 Swarthmore - NEW
08 Mt. Holyoke (W) - NEW
09 Army
10 SUNY Stony Brook
11 Rutgers - NEW
12 Navy
13 Maryland
14 Virginia
15 Virginia Tech
16 Will and Mary
17 Clemson
18 Tennessee - NEW
19 Florida
20 South FLA - NEW
21 Arizona State
22 Northwestern
23 Chicago
24 Wisconsin
25 Indiana
26 Michigan State
27 Michigan
28 Texas
29 Texas A & M
30 Nevada Reno - NEW
31 Dartmouth
32 Illinois
I am unclear as to if the following teams will be represented. Would you all please email me a confirmation to compete or, note that your school will not compete. I imagine some on this list are most likely while others are not.
33 Miami OH
34 Xavier
35 Wyoming - NEW
36 UCLA
37 California - Berkeley
38 Temple (M)
39 West Virginia - NEW
40 Art Academy
41 NC State
42 Georgia Tech
43 Purdue
44 Central Michigan
45 Minnesota
Again please exercise courtesy and let me know so either we can plan accordingly. Keep in mind the following points as they may affect decisions of teams whose status I am not aware of:
01 2009 will be at Wisconsin
02 2010 will be at Virginia Tech
03 2012 will be at Army
04 2011 site TBA - it should be a western school since we have not yet been able to compete in either the west or southwest, If schools from CA continue coming and TX/AZ schools continue as expected, I believe we should try again for one of those regions.
The rule is a team may host ONLY if that school has been a participant for at least 2 years in a row, no exceptions. Please keep that in mind and let me know if any school would like to bid for 2011. FYI - 2013 should be in the Midwest; 2014 should be in the Mid Atlantic area.
FINALLY IT IS MY ADVICE THAT ANY SCHOOL CONSIDERING COMPETING JOIN THE ORGANIZATION SO THAT IF THE SCHOOL DECIDES IT WANTS TO ATTEND IT MAY DO SO. THE INVESTMENT OF $ 50 IS WORTH THE ABILITY TO COMPETE IF A CLUB WISHES TO DO SO. THE WORST THAT HAPPENS IS THE $ 50 EXPENSE FOR DUES.
I look forward to hearing from you all soon. We are already going on 6 years old.
Best,
Bruce | I've also attached the 2008 Membership Form.
If you fence for a school that isn't listed here and would like additional information there are tons of USACFC fencers that participate regularly on f.net. Throw out questions and they're very likely to be answered.
If your club is interested in joining and competing that's great. Fill out the form, send it in, start getting involved.

Last year's entry fee was $450, is that subject to change? If so, can you guess as to how much?

If so, can you guess as to how much? | There's been at least idle conversation of tacking on a little extra money so that we can more easily have score&time on every strip (or at least a larger percentage). Of course, then not everyone would be expected to bring a strip setup....
And to label these conversations as "informal" would be to overstate the formality......
Jon Moss (and the organizing committee) is still in the process of beating the Smith Athletic Administration over the head with a dead frozen fish in order to get details hammered out--- they're not happy if they don't threaten to pull the event from us on what seems like a near weekly basis. Of course, I was told at one point that there was only a .1% chance we could host the event, and then got the event approved by that person's boss............... and since then, she's been a bit nicer to me.....

Besides, don't you remember the vote? Someone is going to decide the format, lock it in a safe, and pull it out 10 seconds before the start of fencing.
I don't know about you, but I am training my team advanced RPS techniques.

| Note: Wafath is Vice-President of the USACFC. He ought to be one of the most informed people in the process and a part of the decision-making team.

| The particular question I had in mind was, "Are they using normal or Budweiser rules for RPS". |

| Speaking of money I don't know the details, but IU Bloomington has yet to be reimbursed for their expenses from hosting the 2007 event. ::thumbs up::
In the meantime, I've got a hosting manual to write. Anyone have some SWAGs they'd like me to put in? I figure yours is just as good as mine.
