| just out of curiousity, where can you get one? I looked on the website for santelli's and american fencer and they don't seem to have any listing for the leon paul reaction epee. I take it that you would have to order directly from leon paul? |

However, I may give Santelli a call to see if they have any. I'm in Jersey so I might have a chance to examine one.

Of course they are not going to say that a heavy epee is worse. They are not going to point out the cons of a light epee, only the pros, since they are trying to sell you an expensive light epee.

| Well I didn't let that one article convince me to buy an ultralight, nor did I buy it from Lean-Paul.
What are some disadvantages then?

i.e. the same thread where some possible disadvantages of ultralights have been mentioned. Some things mentioned have been specific to the LP, while others have been more general. |

| MFP, you must learn to detect sarcasm.

MFP, you must learn to detect sarcasm.

Oh, I'm quite good at detecting sarcasm. I'm also good at detecting people who have a habit of repeatedly asking questions that have been asked and covered in discussions they have supposedly participated in.
Maybe you know the type? The person in the class who strangely asks the questions the instructor answered in the lecture ... or asks the questions the class has already been discussing for the last hour.
Or maybe you've seen the same stunning behavior during business meetings. Some managers seem to specialize in it.
In both cases you're left wondering, "Hello? Anyone home?"
Perhaps the msg board equivalent would be if (hypothetically of course) someone asked "what are the advantages of pommelling an epee? or "what are the disadvantages of ultralight epees?" after a couple dozen posts addressed such topics. I'm sure there are other hypothetical examples folks can think of.
[Sarcasm? What, me? ]
Now if someone who asks questions that have already been addressed is really "just trying to get additional input on this subject", then there's a better way than looking like they've been sleeping in class or suffering from early onset Altzheimers.
They could summarize what has been already learned from their research and others' "input" and then explicitly ask for "additional input".
Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Now back to ultralight epees ... since the grip of the LP ultralight handle is hollow, I've started experimenting with adding some weights inside it to change the balance. I end up with a weapon that's still much lighter than my other epees, while changing the balance a little more to my liking. Also, while I'm still getting used to the size of the LP grip itself, I'm finding it to be easier on my wrist. (The search for something easier on my wrist was one of my main reasons in wanting to try it out). |

| I would be falling into the category of someone who wanted additional input from the other epeeists besides ("You should post because its the main advantage of the French grip")
Several days ago, in the thread getting a bend in a French epee, I posted the following....

quote:
In the event I ever try to post, I have a two questions/requests.
1. Have my head examined
2. Since my instructor has never breathed a word of posting, is there an Epee book that goes into depth on the technique.

There you have it! I want additional info on posting other than if you fence French, then you should. On the lightness of the epee that prompted you to compare me to some mindness being, Vecco was talking about how Leon Paul was not going to say that there were disadvantages to their new product. Okday, I just looked over my reply and I can see where the confusion came in. By the contex of my last sentance, it sounded like I was asking what the disadvantages of the Leon-Paul Reaction epee were. I appologize because I meant it as far as ultralights in general, which I've heard nothing but positive remarks.
Next time when I'm trying to dig furthur into an issue, I'll try your suggestion of summarizing what has been said and ask for additional input.
