    Here's A Rant for ya

I just saw Jerry Springer. I am having trouble understanding why he is allowed to continue his "programming". It seems his entire script is based on the following:

    1. Find a few women from the ghetto that have nothing.
    2. Hire three or four queens to prep the girls for a fist fight.
    3. Bring them onto a stage dressed like prostitutes.
    4. Initiate a fight.
    5. Have the queens keep the fight going until one of them bleeds.
    6. Bring them offstage
7.The Audience feels sorry for the girls, but doesn't say anything because they want a fight.
    8. No one protests even though they're supposedly 'feminists'
    9. No one from officialdom helps these poor women to bring them out of destitution.

Please, get rid of Jerry Springer - he hates women and we're tired of watching him get them beat up just to bring him out.

What??? Everybody fights on Springer, not just the women. Guys, just as much, if not moreso. Even the midgets fight!...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOuJXwwPq6w

In having previously done my research on the topic of midget fights, I've come to the conclusion that they're just sad to watch. One midget is always bigger than the other and always has an unfair advantage.

Hey Lemon - I agree with you, but I think it all boils down to the whole supply and demand thing.

As long as there are people out there who'll watch it, it'll hang around...

I guess you could choose not to watch the show, not be part of the television audience that attracts the sponsors who pay the bills. You could also let the advertisers know you won't buy their products as long as they are associated with Jerry Springer.
And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?

You are all correct, right and so forth, but it is such an American Disgrace. I really can't believe how horrible it looks. It tells millions and millions of people world wide that we can't figure out a way to support and properly dress ignorant females, and need to hire goons to throw them into t.v. mosh pits - I defend our country 100% but it tells me that we in a moral mess and I believe it is the reason we are attacked. If we want to find a way to avoid conflict, we need to think of ways to get it together. I don't think I could do that not even for a million dollars it sets too strong an example.

Why don't one of you guys write a script for an entire season of tv fencing. We might as well get into it. You could run like a whole thing of history, background, classes, and some footage of some World Competetors. Local News guys only run around once a year and talk fencing - its just not enough.

On the other hand, a few of us have tried valiently to bring about social order and it ends up in the mosh pit again.

Thus my slogan "People - destroying all hope for a brighter tomorrow."

Social change is so horrendously slow. People are extremely reluctant to give up their own interests for the greater good. Which assumes people could even come to agreement on what the greater good was. I'll stop before I start ranting.

Reality fencing on TV - I would definitely watch and support! :

I don't understand why you're being ignorant to the fact that they don't do this only to females, and not to only poor females?

I have some major problems with this.

    1. How can a small segment of the population watching a bad show lead to “we” being in a moral mess? After all, most Americans do not watch Jerry Springer. Therefore I must conclude that we are doing just fine. There are some folks with no taste, but that is their problem, certainly not an indicator of my moral state or even my level of taste.

I am not sure how this even rises to the level of a national moral mess. If you want a national moral mess, pick countries where the people are starving because the leaders line their pockets with bribes, where death squads are operating freely as an extension of government policy, where women are sentenced to gang rape by the courts, where women are beaten for pursuing an education and men are beaten for listening to unacceptable music.

This is just a tasteless tacky TV show, for heaven’s sake!

    2. Jerry Springer and his ilk are the reason we are attacked? Heck, if that is the case, let a thousand Jerry Springers bloom. Jerry Springer’s sleaze can’t hold a candle to the moral cesspool of terrorists.

If killing thousands of people for their taste in entertainment is someone’s idea of a proper way to redress the issue, there is a serious priorities issue here.

Much less do I intend to tell my neighbors how to live their lives based on the blackmail levied by murderous terrorists.

    3. I am really intrigued about the “a few of us have tried valiently to bring about social order”. In what way is the country in social disorder? Are we having riots in the streets? Is the government collapsing? Has commerce failed and large segments of the population begun streaming off across the borders?

Are the few wiser than the many? We live in a constitutional democratic republic in which the many decide how they want to live with respect for the rights of the few.
Places ruled by the Taliban were a perfect example of the few bringing about social order.

The glory of a free society is that each person gets to decide for himself how to best live his life. If we surrender that, then we are no longer the land of the free.

I hate to burst your bubble, but that program has so many viewers, no one knows how many, it's carried by satelite overseas, it's a disgrace to show ignorance of that magnitude to peope who live in other countries and contradicts every positive message that good people try to send out.
As far as the 'starving masses overseas' we have starving people in America, we have people who have nothing and we should bolster those people first before we think we can show other nations how to raise people. And btw, I don't write this as a person who is looking for anything myself, I've always taken care of myself. But there are many people who can't.

Today, I watched a segment about Iran, those people are living a better life than many Americans. Maybe they have a better system of government. America is only attacked for one reason, to protest moral decay.

Anyway as far as our guys in Iraq go, I hope they come home soon, and maybe we should try to plan some sort of a clean up crew for those people. I don't think they'll ever get the Palace 'in one peice again', but we sure should try. Then we should sign some sort of a peace tready, work out some political agreements on their turf, and then leave. But I don't think we should leave anything in such a disasterous mess.

Ahem... there's nothing wrong with another country having a better lifestyle than Americans. Many places do, many don't. You make it sound like it's a bad thing.

There is a wide range of lifestyles in your country, as in the world. The idea of America being a "one-size fits all, best country in the world" is not realistic or accurate.

I'm always amazed that, in this modern day and age, where travel is common, people still tend to think that the culture of their immediate community is universal. I have close friends in the northeast who cannot figure out how Bush could have gotten re-elected, because nobody they know voted for him. I have close friends out west who cannot comprehend how someone could possibly want more government involvement in society. I have good acquaintances in the middle east who have zero understanding of the concept of women's rights or religious tolerance. All of these people are university-educated world travellers, and yet their world view remains parochial.

I guess it's just human nature.

Yay! Now I get to feel all superior to the bulk of humanity because I am so much more enlightened than they are!

They don't absorb what they see. It's all a blur.

Sorry to continue writing, but ask someone....'how was your trip to Italy?" oh,.....eummmm, "Ok, do you have any pictures, did you get to see the xyz?" ...... its universal. Part of it is jet lag, and part of it, is that images are absorbed slowly, into the consciousness, maybe at a level which we [Buddhists] would call the 6th, 7th and 8th level of consciousness.
