cup question The cup I found is not at all uncomfortable during fencing itself. Prior to fencing, when we are doing conditioning, warm-ups, etc. it is more awkward. Therefore, it is a nuisance to run to the changing room in the midst of the transition from the exercising we do to the fencing in my class. I see women often putting on chest protectors without any issues about it needing to be private. Maybe we should be as bold too. What do others think? -
the concensus here is wear it or dont, they are your kids. lets not get another war started over this again k?

Actually, I think the question is whether to just slip it on in front of everyone, not whether to wear one while fencing. Lord knows, we don't need to get into THAT issue again. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with someone putting one on in the fencing room as long as you're somewhat discreet. Maybe just turn your back or something. -

Array I'd rather see a guy put his cup on than watch a big, sweaty, HAIRY ape man taking his clothes off in the middle of the venue. We have a couple guys in the MI division who INSIST that we want to see that. We're going to start taking pictures, & put it up on a website titled "Don't be this guy" or something.
One guy, might I say, wipes down his sweaty body with his sweaty shirt. It's like a traffic accident...you're repulsed, but can't help but stare. Ladybug might know who I'm talking about! "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

My solution is fairly simple. I put the strap on when I get changed, do warmups (Coach just loves sideways crossover running, cup definitely gets in the way) then grap the plastic and shove it in before things get dangerous. Makes for quick removal afterwards too. How you spell "relief"?

Array Hey, Mary, that might be a good idea, if we weren't trying to ATTRACT web hits! But I think everyone in the state knows who you mean.
And, yes, guys, no one will care as long as you're discreet. -
RC, thanks, that sounds like the best solution. Where do you keep the cup before you slip it on. Out of the lockers in your fencing bag? or do you go to the lockers for a quick change?
And to the women who responded thanks for your input. I feel less uncomfortable about it now. -
My bad. I guess I misread the question. sorry for the confusion, namely mine

That is a simple answer. The cup should be put on in the dressing room. In all sports where men wear a protective cup, it is put on in the dressing room. Ice hockey, baseball, karate, etc. You see men adjusting the cup in public but never inserting it into the jock strap in public.
Usually, female fencers are wearing something decent (t-shirt or athletic top) before they put on their chest protector.

I keep the cup in my equipment bag. Since the strap is already on, there's no need to pull down my breeches and give everyone a show. Comments regarding me having my hand down my pants are answered on the piste. "Etes-vous prets?"

I wait until I've got the time and privacy to let my wife and girlfriend help. They enjoy making sure everything important is safely tucked away.
In other words, dressing that involves undergarments should not be a spectator sport. It's a private event by invitation only. -
To RC, is it that inconvenient to walk to the men's room to insert the cup?
To Bugaboo, wife and girlfriend? Ha ha ha. Two words: Yeah right. Lumberg.

One word for this whole topic: EWWW! Come on, have more tact, and let this topic die! Resolve: Duh, wear a cup, and Duh, put it on in a restroom, or shower room, but not in public! Again I reiterate: ewwww!!!! "Pain is just weakness leaving your body." Similar Threads -
