Thank you Jason Rogers, Sada Jacobson, et. al.

My son recently attended the Monticello Fencing Camp (sponsored by Manhattan Fencing Center). In attendance were many of our top fencers. I would like to take a moment to recognize some of these athletes for their gracious and humble interactions with the younger fencers in particular. I can only speak to my son's experience, however, their actions speak volumes relative to their characters. My son could barely contain his enthusiasm as he spoke of his interactions with Mr. Rogers, Ms. Jacobson, and Mr. Homer in particular. Elite athletes, who are busy and focused on their own training could easily, even if not intentionally, be percieved as aloof and untouchable. These individuals were neither. Through their positive and supportive actions they have inspired at least one young fencer to work harder and dream bigger. I can not say how far my son's fencing will take him, but I can say he will fondly remember this summer camp experience forever. Thank you, each of you, for sharing your time and your passion for fencing with all of the young fencers, and in particular with my son Justin.

I was at the Monticello Camp as well. The names mentioned above were indeed very friendly towards the other fencers and it was a great experience just being around them and being able to see them fence. I would like to add Tim Morehouse to the list of those mentioned. He actually watched a bout of mine and gave me advice afterwards and several times throughout the camp.

Donna - That's a great post. It's great to see people acknowledge the great things that the majority of fencers do to help out those with less experience that want to learn.
