My saber-fencing son bought a pair of Adistars between the NAC-F and Nationals, and the inside back foot just got chewed up on the metal strips in Miami. Other than the one spot, they were still brand new. He prefers the Adistars due to the heel support and light weight.
At SN we studied the Scimtars (which he did not like because of the width) at the LP booth very carefully, and their extra reinforcement at this part of the shoe. We figured we might as well try to create our own "Asymms". So, we talked with a local shoe maker, and we modified the Adistars so that the trailing foot now has the extra reinforcement/scuff padding like the Scimtars, better lining from the toe to the inside arch, and adding almost no extra weight. It also is in a larger area than Adidas had. They are now quite the work of art with no change in performance. And, for $25 we saved the shoes and the duct tape.
