epee to sabre? Hey everyone! I have always been an "epeeist", and then suddenly a new coach came in, took one look at how I hit, and make my moves, and he told me that sabre is where I really need to be. Me, it really doesn't matter, I suppose it would be fun to try, he seemed so sure that is what I would kill at, so...in this respect...tell me your opinion...and do you know of any good, moderately priced sabres, preferably a non electric, that way I can practice with it, and get an electric one later if I find out I like it. -

Array Try it out and see what you think...fence what you like in the end. If it's epee, stick with it.

Array Switching from epee to sabre... what a sad sad thought...... If you give a man a fire, he is warm for the night.
If you set a man on fire, he is warm for the rest of his life. -

Array Saber!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are those of us out here that just don't have the knack for that poky poky stuff. So I say EXCELLENT IDEA (no not biased here.) There are some rule differences to watch for...right-of-way, and no cross-over specifically. Have fun. By the way, for those of you who may think that I believe everyone should fence saber, you are wrong. I am also a coach and I had a young girl in my saber class who, based on the way she moved etc. was obviously more a foil or epee fencer. I just didn't see saber in her so I transfered her to the epee/foil coach.

Make sure you fully understand the right of way rule. It's the pitfall of many a converted epeeist. -

We found a teacher that taught it before, and will teach us, we even have equipment, and are itching to get started. Our "mentor" will be gone for three weeks, is it wise to begin by ourselves, or best advised to wait for proper instruction? We have read the rules, and techniques. Yes, patience is a virtue, I know, I know."
So you've been fencing for a little over one month so I would suggest either working on your epee only or switch to sabre only. Actually, you should be working on your basic footwork and form. Lumberg.
