Parking for Nationals in San Jose

I know it is way early to worry about Nationals next year (except that I am in charge of housing for our club and I like to start scouting early) but did anyone else notice that parking at the San Jose Convention Center is $18.00 per day

Amazing what can make a taxi sound reasonable.

That is the underground parking underneath the convention center. There are outdoor parking lots nearby (and not so nearby, but within walking distance) that are $10 or less per day.

You have to realize that downtown SJ is an actual downtown of a city with businesses and employers with many, many employees and visitors. The city ain't just a giant glass parking lot.

Parking rates in the late afternoon/early evening is pretty cheap. Some are free with validation or even without, and they're in the vicinity of the convention center.

There is lots of parking around there and some is more expensive then others. Here is a link to the lots.

The Crowne Plaza across the street from the conv. center has parking for $10 per day. However, like most of the lots you pay each time you go in and out.

Yes. But If I remember the area well enough, there is actually a light rail that runs in the area. You may want to check out if the light rail runs from the airport to the convention area. (I can't remember...I had to run around the place for a while).

To take the light rail to the convention center, one needs to take a bus from the airport to the light rail. Then take light rail straight down 1st street to the convention center area. That should be substantially cheaper than taking the taxi from the airport to downtown SJ. Downtown SJ is not very far from SJC. (Planes' landing path go over downtown SJ at a fairly low clip...)

Or you can take the free shuttle from SJC to CalTrain, CalTrain to the Diridon station. You could take light rail from there or even walk. It's less than a mile
    I would guess.

It would be a pain and I wouldn't recommend it but it's possible.

I did lug my fencing kit (in a hard golf bag) and a small suitcase through nearly that same
route after landing at SJC. It was better than counting on my flaky house mate for a ride.

Light rail stops right by the convention center. You may want to consider hotel/parking options on the south side of town taking light rail to the venue. Parking is generally free in the park/ride lots.
