Seriously. At $6 per 150 miles with a scooter, it's a great option.
Google them, they're illegal around my parts, or at least certain places and certain ages.
In most states, if you're over 18, you can ride a smaller one (50cc engine) and you don't need a motorcycle license. If that's not the case with your area, you probably would beed a motorcycle license for it to be legal.
Don't let 'em drop it. Don'tlet'emdropit. Stop it... bebop it.
A 250cc will get around 70 MPG, and also has power enough to keep up in traffic (60-70 MPH).
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
As a city dweller, I wish more people rode scooters (and motorcycles). They don't use anywhere near as much gas per passenger-mile as cars do. They don't take up anywhere near as much space on the road as all those cars with nobody inside but a driver. They don't cause anywhere near as much damage when they collide with pedestrians and buildings. And almost all who ride them are much better drivers, with better situational awareness, than the typical inattentive car driver (they have to be, or else they're roadkill).
If more people rode than drove in the city, fuel would be conserved, emissions would be reduced, congestion would be eliminated, and accidents and injuries would be reduced.
I go even further. I say people should be compelled to learn to ride before they're allowed to drive. The situational awareness, focus and concentration that are forced on the rider will carry over into their driving, making everyone a better driver. And it will also make drivers aware of all the riders out there that they simply don't see (because they don't think to look for them). Accidents will go down, skills will go up, and many will continue to ride, reducing congestion and pollution.
Scooters are hip. Mopeds are dorky. Motorcycles are fun. I wish I had any of the above. (Gas-guzzling, road-hogging SUV driver, me. Mea culpa!)
Just because you have the right, that doesn't mean it is right.
I just found out that scooters get around 70 miles per gallon. Does anyone out there have one? What do you think about them?
I don't have one but would love to!
They're really gotten popular in Sweden the last years as they're cheap (even cheaper for you with US petrol prices!) and swift to get you around.
The one thing about them here, is that if you live in a city area theft insurance is very high due to them being so popular (and easy to steal, one presumes).
I used a Vespa Sport (125 cc) as my main transportation for three years a while ago--they are a great way to get around. If you get a windscreen, (which admittedly makes you look even more like a dork), you even stay pretty dry in the rain. In Europe, they are quite common--in the States, you might have to have a slightly thicker skin to ignore the requisite stupidity of people who drive 10 mpg SUVs.
Why sabre? Because you don't take heads with the point.
id say it also depends on what kind of city you live in and where you plan on driving with it. Otherwise you might as well get a motorbike , since they are also hella cheap on gas and insurance
As someone who used to work in a trauma hospital, I hate the things. I'm always the one seeing what happens when things go wrong on them.
"When your opponent fears you, then's the moment when you give the fear its own rein, give it the time to work on him. Let it become terror. The terrified man fights himself. Eventually he attacks in desperation. That is the most dangerous moment, but the terrified man can be trusted usually to make a fatal mistake. You are being trained here to detect these mistakes and use them." -Frank Herbert, Dune
Have Fun! I've been looking at getting a scooter and am debating between a Vespa 150 or 200. I really need to decide if I'll use it all that much, but the test drive was a real kick!
