Age break downs of Summer Nationals attendees? There's been a fair amount of discussion about the satisfaction with the Miami Beach location for last month's Summer Nationals.
Much of that level of satisfaction seems to have been linked to the age and status of the attendee: adult vs. youth, single vs. family.
Has anyone ever broken down the attendance at a Summer National by age of participant?
Since many (most?) fencers participate in multiple events, a simple count of event participant lists would not provide this information, nor would they include the judges who also attend.
Basically, I'm wondering if there are more youth/families attending the Summer Nationals than single adults. -

By far, more kids and families attend a Summer Nationals than single adults. Don't let 'em drop it. Don'tlet'emdropit. Stop it... bebop it.

That was what I would have assumed, but there are so many fencing.net posts hoping for the USFA to schedule future Miami Beach events because of the proximity to night life, bars (and nude beaches), I thought perhaps my assumption was wrong.
Greatest good for the greatest number should lead the USFA to skew their event location decisions towards "family friendly" cities and, realistically, the single adults could hunt up their own entertainment during events, or resign themselves to event trips being off-partying days. (Probaly blasphemy to some!) -
The first half of the Summer Nationals would have had more families and youths, the second half would have been more adults. -
I suspect many more adults post on fencing.net than kids. -

People who fenced it in are probably nearly all children.
Harder to track, and probably more relevant, are the parents, refs, armorers, coaches, and other mostly adult staff that traveled with them. -

Array I brought my family to 10 days - 9-nights of SN2007. We stayed at an oceanfront hotel. My wife and 18-year old daughter never made it to the venue. For them, it was beach, tiki, pool, massage, greet sweaty fencers (me and my son). For me, it was great! They were happy, while we were happy! We spent 5 days of the 10 in events, but everyday we made it to the beach, and we drove for nice dinner. We even went to Coconut Grove. Similar Threads -
