Set your VCRs - August 8th Today Show

http://www.fencing.net/content/view/529/2/

2004 Olympic gold medallist Mariel Zagunis and 2004 Olympic men's saber
fencer Keeth Smart will appear on NBC's Today Show on the morning of August 8 as a part of the Today Show's One Year from Beijing special.

Zagunis will appear in a taped profile. Smart will appear live in-studio and
afterward in person at the NBC Experience store in Manhatten for an
autograph session.

Set your machines to record, and if you're in the New York area, come out to
support your Olympians!!

Holy Frijoles! That's pretty cool. Thanks Craig! Do you suppose they'll ask if the weapons are sharp?...

I don't watch live TV (watch only DVDs or VHSs), so I am wondering, what do people do now to record television shows from off the air? Fewer people have VCRs than before and most DVD players are not recordable (or are they?).

Yes this is a threadjack, and one with an answer that I really don't care to know (since I won't be using the information in any viable way).

Well now most cable and satellite companies have a DVR option that costs more. So you just set it to record whatever live TV you want, and thats pretty much it. You can also buy Tivo which records what you want as well.

Or you can install Linux and a tv card on an old computer and make yourself a set-top box which will record the programs and burn them to DVD (a separate operation).

Are you saying that television aerials have no use anymore? That it's impossible for people to get free television reception using rabbit ear antennas or aerials hung on the roof?

It is still possible, until recently I only had 13 local channels(and half of those were in spanish/korean)... now I have around 100.

Actually, IIRC, all the TV stations do broadcast in HD and while it doesn't travel far, you can get it for free with the proper antenna. (TV stations don't want broadcast to go away - cable/satellite is evil to them.)

Thanks for the news item, Craig. I have the satellite/DVR type combo (and a bit extra) and will dutifully record.

Hmm, I'll be on JetBlue at about that time. I wonder if I'll be able to watch it.

I'll tune in, if only to see which stupid questions and fatuous remarks the poor long-suffering fencers will have to endure THIS time...

Time and channel on the West Coast?

If anyone knows what time the show will be on (PST) and what network the show is on, please speak up. Thanks!

Which Hour?

Am away from my DVR, anyone know which hour they will appear - no way I can make it through three hours of morning drivel!

I get some strange mail from my Portland pals sometimes, but this little clip!! No, not really strange, but about 2 minutes of Mariel.

http://www.kgw.com/video/index.html?...d=164996&shu=1

A preview of tomorrow morning's broadcast, presumably at 8.
