    Used Equipment

Does anyone know where I can get some slightly- to moderately-used equipemnt? I'm trying to find a way to get back-up supplies for my school group without breaking our budget.

I find that most people don't want to pay the equipment cost if they don't know if they want to stick with the sport or not (can we really blame them?). I'm just trying to find two foils, two jackets, two gloves, and two masks. If anyone has any ideas, please share them.

Used equipment is a dry well-- except for the occasional individual selling off some no-longer-needed personal gear, it is more or less nonexistent. Clubs and teams generally use equipment until it's broken or worn out beyond their ability to repair.

I recall that Triplette sometimes has 'seconds' (i.e., slightly defective but still useable product that nonetheless can't be sold as new-- jackets with uneven seams and the like) available for sale to clubs at low prices. You might contact them to inquire about this. Other than that, you're best off seeing what the prices on low-end stuff from Blue Gauntlet, Blade, and Triplette are.

What kind of school group, high school or college? Are you running the club? How large is it?
You are in a bit of a bind. It's hard to get people in the sport without having equipment on hand for them to borrow in the beginning.
Are you in the US? I have two used right-handed jackets you might want to buy. One is a men's 38 made by Santelli and is button closure, the other is a men's 42 made by Triplette and is velcro closure. Both are kind of used but not completely worn out. Post again if you are interested.

I would be very careful on e-bay (or any auction site). Most of the stuff there goes for as much as it would have cost new. You're also taking a chance on everything since you are buying sight-unseen with no chance to inspect the equipment. That doesn't mean not to give them a try, just be very careful and realize that you're taking a chance.
