Array Recommendations for New Music? OK, I've been listening to the same music now for over ten years, and I think that it's time to find SOMETHING different... But being old and crusty (or at least near middle age), I can't imagine going too far afield... SOOOOO... Does anyone have a suggestion for a new band based on the few that I have been listening to for these past few decades?
Currently in my play list are:
Jethro Tull
CSN
Joemy Wilson
Steel Eye Span
Clannad
Live
The Cranberrys
Billy Joel
The Police
Boston (only a few songs there)
Pink Floyd
Simon and Garfunkel
Rusted Root
Silly Wizard
So based on these, any suggestions for new music in a similar vein?

Array A few ideas.
Your classic rock sensibilities and liking of bands with a sense of humor makes me pretty sure you'll enjoy the White Stripes.
Your enjoyment of bands with unusual melodies and rhythms, plus a couple tortured-soul type singers, makes me think you'll enjoy Tool, Staind and Radiohead.
There's not a lot of singer-songwriter stuff being made now, or at least I'm not aware of it, so can't think of any new groups to replace those elements.
You'll probably like Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, and Nickelback, for the pop-40 stuff. "What did I tell you about being stupid? You don't get a birthday this year." -

It's an internet radio thing, where you can enter a favorite song or band, and it will suggest other songs and bands you might like. As songs appear, you can identify if you like the new songs, and it will eventually learn more and more about your musical preferences. -

It requires you install a program, but it "scrobbles" what you currently listen to on your computer to find all kinds of neat stuff.

I'm a big Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd fan. Lately, I've been listening to Buckethead, who's a guitarist. http://youtube.com/watch?v=DGXvtAYh-Q8
That's pretty much the only new music I've been listening to for the last few years. -

There isn't new data on me since exams, however, since I'm not online when listening to music at my parents' house, and the last time I checked, they didn't support Vista (they do now, I guess.)
I imagine that last.fm might provide better information long term, but I've never found it particularly useful for music suggestions.... -

Array Thank you all for your responses.... now I just need to find the time to listen to all these new (to me) bands! "Rub her feet!" - Lazarus Long, Time enough for Love, Robert A. Heinlein "Never moon a werewolf."

Array Here are some more recommendations:
Bloc Party
Dredg
Minus the Bear
Muse
The Strokes
Hope you're not overloaded by all the suggestions.
And last.fm is awesome stuff, I'm at last.fm/tehcow. People don't dance no more (what!?),
They just stand there like this (that's right!),
They cross their arms and stare you down and drink and moan and dis (OK now!). Similar Threads -
