I think he should be banned for life. He adds nothing to the sport of football. He is a negative force on humanity.

The last time I checked the dictionary, indicted did not mean the same as convicted. Why don't we give it some more time before sending him off to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison?

Definitely let the system work before he goes to prison...no question. But in the meantime, BAN HIM FOR LIFE!

I don't know if you have read any of the reports coming out today, but apparently this is a FEDERAL indictment, which carries more weight than indictment at lower levels, and comes with a 95% conviction average. They're saying that it's just a matter of time now.

You heard it here first: I BET that Vick does not complete another whole season in the NFL...his career is virtually finished.

Hey, Michael, if you're done using your physical talent, may I use it for a while?

I think he'll need it in prison, if you know what I mean.

Yes, that's very reasonable, legal and fair.

On the other hand, there are no formal policies outlining the conduct of the "court of public opinion." We can convene and pass judgment at any time.

Now, sure, LATER, if we're wrong ... Well.

no. a few games would be good. a few games without pay and all endorsements for that period should be taken away. they should slap more community service on and make it hard community service.

People were quick to pass judgement on the Duke lacrosse players too. Look how that turned out. I've been following this story, but I'd rather wait a little longer before calling for a lifetime ban on Michael Vick. If Vick is associated with the dogfighting ring, and it certainly looks so right now, than Roger Goodell should bring down the hammer on him. But if it turns out that Vick didn't have any knowledge of it, as he has said, than this could be another case of a headline-seeking prosecutor.

A federal indictment is a lot easier to get than most state-level indictments. The feds are allowed to rely on hearsay, so their grand juries usually only hear a single law-enforcement witness read from his notes about what other witnesses told him. Most states require the actual witnesses themselves to testify. So I'm not sure a federal indictment carries any more weight than a state indictment.

The 95% number is the same everywhere, and seems a little low. State or federal, almost all indictments become convictions. That's because almost everyone in the system at that point is guilty. Cops try not to arrest innocent people most of the time, prosecutors try not to indict cases they won't be able to prove at trial, and grand juries often act as a test of a case's provability at trial. Any experienced defense attorney will tell you that they almost never -- or actually never -- represent innocent clients.

Correct, most clients are not guilty. Innocent is much harder to get.

I'm optimistic about the prosecution's chances; they were really quiet, even saying that they weren't going to indict Vick until a few weeks ago. Rumor has it that the Feds have turned some of the people who were actually there, exchanging money. If that's the case, it'll be pretty hard unless Vick gets off on some technicality.

Until the verdict is in, star running back Michael Vick should be allowed to play football. Although he's shown poor judgement in the past, this is technically a first offense. If he's proven guilty, I believe this bit from the indictment will be everything the Commish needs to know for sentencing:

In or about April 2007, PEACE, PHILLIPS, and VICK executed approximately 8 dogs that did not perform well in "testing" sessions at 1915 Moonlight Road by various methods, including hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground.

If the case begins during the football season, and it looks like it will, the Falcons will need a quarterback for at least part of the year. How long until they give Jeff George another try?
