How long until they give Jeff George another try?
As a Colts fan, I wouldn't wish Jeff George on anybody.
Well, except maybe the Patriots.

darius Yeah, well, the ponies are one-and-done. Watch out for the Pats this year! Look what they did last year with a Junior High School JV Receiving Corps!
Oh, and maybe we would take Jeff George...he can be a ticket-taker at the front of Gillette Stadium! -

Array We should start a different thread on the upcoming NFL season. Because, mark my words, the Buffalo Bills will make the playoffs. Can't you, just this once, f*** off? -

Oh, is that why they couldn't stop the Colt offense? All your receivers were playing defense? I guess Belichick finally got too clever for his own good...

Array Vick sucks....but then again he sucked before any of this happened. Whatever doesn't kill you, is gonna leave a scar...

Array After they send him to jail the entire estate should be burned to the ground. I can't think of a single human being who would live in a place like that - it was a horrible blood-bath. I am not a big fan of those sorts of dogs, but I would never pit one against another. Did he need money that badly? I am just gr ossed out and so was everyone else. -

Array I am not ready to throw in the towel on Mike Vick just yet. Everyone sic'd their dogs on Duke Lacrosse and Kobe Bryant, and both turned out to be innocent.
The facts aren't all in, else Goodell would have put the hammer down. He suspended Pacman Jones without a conviction, and he would do the same to Vick if there was no doubt of his involvement.
Until we know more, I am still with Ookie. Well, The Rock says you didn't get that touch because your roo-dee-poo director missed the call. No, The Rock says you didn't get the touch because you absolutely suck! http://coletrainfencing.blogspot.com -

Until we know more, I am still with Ookie. Yup. Vick's innocent just like OJ Simpson and Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds and the Chicago Blacksox. Oh...and that dipsh*t from last year's Tour De France.

Array I was trying to customize an Atlanta Falcons #7 jersey with my favorite player, "OOKIE" on there. NFLShop.com gave me the following error: "Your current entry cannot be processed. Language deemed inappropriate, derogatory, or profane will not be accepted. Please create a new entry."
Tried "MEXICO". Apparently the NFL is anti-immigrant.
"DOG". The NFL hates puppies.
"VICK". The NFL is biased against running backs.
"BAD NEWZ". NFLShop tells me, 'Great choice! To purchase your customized jersey, click on "ADD TO CART."' It's also fine with "MARIJUANA", Vick's water-bottle ingredient of choice.
I can only conclude that the NFL Shop is un-American. It does not approve of silly nicknames, latinos, dogs, or star football players. (The astute will not that it is not un-american enough to disapprove of "APPLE PIE") However, if you want illegal drugs or the name of your favorite VA-based fighting dog breeding operation on your jersey, you can have it.

Array Who cares if he fights dogs.
They're just animals.
Kitten fighting is so much cooler though.
Seriously though, anyone who really cares about MV's dog fighting is a moron. There are people starving in africa and parents doing terrible things to their children every day, and you get ****ed up over some animals. Same thing with those people clubbing the seals, who cares? There are bigger problems. We kill thousands of cows, pigs and chickens every day, why does it matter that we club seals or fight dogs? Is it because dogs and seals are cute?
People who care about animals this much are just people who want something unimportant to fight for.
So yeah, go ahead and get your dick in a twist about a ****in animal, while your neighbor next door is beating the tar out of their 6 year old son and molesting their 11 year old daughter.

1. You think people are more upset about Vick being involved in dog-fighting than they would be if he were to be involved in child abuse or molestation; or
2. You think because worse things are happening around the world, Vick shouldn't be prosecuted?

--Philistine Great point, here is some food for thought...
1. Would Mike Vick be in so much hot water with the feds and the court of public opinion if he was involved in cockfighting?
Honestly, I would say no.
2. Would the feds have gotten involved if it was Schaub instead of Vick who was involved? Or any other lesser known athlete?
I would say no here too.

Thoughts? Thoughts on point 1: Maybe/maybe not.
Thoughts on point 2: Definitely. No question about it. I think you know that they would be involved, too...deep down inside you know it. Don't be an apologist for your beloved "Ookie." He's a hoodlum. If he weren't, we would not HAVE a property on which dogfighting took place. And that's the LEAST of what he did. Keep in mind that this is the same jerk who gave the FINGER to the fans in his own home stadium. -

Nobody raises chickens anymore. But *everybody* likes dogs. He's probably get far less heat for cockfighting.
2. Would the feds have gotten involved if it was Schaub instead of Vick who was involved? Or any other lesser known athlete?
Yes. Look at the sheer revulsion which this case triggers in the general public. You think being a less-recognized athlete would have stopped that? I highly doubt it.

Thoughts? The focus of the federal investigation is the gambling on the dog-fighting. The dog-fighting itself is a misdemeanor.

Array Lemme think of a few cases which have recieved plentay of media attention....
1. What a barbaric man, Michael Vick.
2. Our national juiceball, Barry Bonds.
4. The exploits of Maestro Don Imus.
What do these cases have in common?
1. They all have relatively little to do with our life.
2. They are easy to stomach.
And finally, number 3..... They distract us from the true issues in our world today.
Uhuh.
When the real issues facing us in day-to-day life are too tough to handle, we turn to inconsequential quabbles as a relief. We, as a society, have become absolutely ENAMORED with other peoples problems! Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson, celebrity affairs, ect......
Why?
Because our brains do not have the capacity to focus on every negative morsel that presents itself, whether through the media or real life. We're content to think about crap that does not effect us, to stick that crap in our mental problem slot, and ignore the issues that have an effect on the day to day life of ourselves, our families and our communities.
Why?
Because it is so much more pleasant to think about how wrong it is to club a friendly seal then it is to think about the poisons that hurt us all, like child abuse, alcoholism, poverty, or cancer.
The reason I don't care about Michael Vick isn't because I think what he's done is pardonable, but because I think he's a small guppy fish in a huge ocean of whale sized turdfish that we call day to day problems.

Array Time to "bump" this Alright...it's been a while since Mr. Vick decided to plead guilty. Although I have no respect for him whatsoever, I am truly amazed at the magnitude of what he threw away. This amazement leads me to be a little sad, and feel sorry for him. I don't like him...really I don't. It's the kind of sorry I would feel if some punk kid ran up to me and stole my wallet, then got run over by a bus while running across the street with it. It shouldn't have happened. What a waste of talent and potential.
On the plus side, the next time you're down on yourself for something, you can always think "at least I'm not Michael Vick!" -

Array Man, a few weeks ago (but after all this stuff was well underway) I saw some teenage guy wearing a Vick jersey. I wanted to say something to him. I mean, that could come off as a bit tasteless, no? And even if he didn't mean anything by wearing it, he's setting himself up for an attack from someone with a bit of fight (and PMS) in them. Like me. Similar Threads -
