Competition Ok - purely out of curiosity here i was wondering what grade the fencers are in here (of those who are still competitive), what country you are in (to gauge competition level) and the highest level of competition you have been in - i'm just curious

Array ::sigh:: I'm a little old unclassified still (I've got the talent for something higher...just haven't been able to take advantage of the opportunity). And I'm in the USA (Michigan, to be more specific). I've been as high as a sectional, but money & time prevent me from going further. "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Same here. Poor college kid with no money. I'm from the US (New York, Long Island Division). I am rated in both foil and epee. E99 and D00 respectively. I got my D00 in epee by placing 6th in the Empire State Games Qualifiers. -

Array I'm an E00 in foil. I don't fence any other weapon. I've fenced at a couple nationals without big results Whatever doesn't kill you, is gonna leave a scar...

Array I'll vouch for Moonitic- if our division was in order a few years ago, she'd be E98, and may have gotten a D back then. She's missed it several times this season and last, by one or two touches. (Hence the nickname "SilverQueen")
As for me, never been rated. But my girlfriend gives me high marks! As to the highest level of competition, I think it must have been the tall-tale competition vs. Al Gore. (I lost)

Array I have a D00 in both foil and Epee. Used to be a C in epee but spent too much time teaching foil the last few years to keep it up. but I'll get it back. If you give a man a fire, he is warm for the night.

well as for me;
i know i am ranked as a C00 for Foil, and i am still waiting for my rankings to be calculated for Epee & Sabre, since the only time i have competitively fenced either of those weapons in a while was at National Secondary Schools and National U20s.
And it looks like finances have shone on me so it looks like i am off to Australian u20s for foil, and hopefully, Sabre. Reuben

Array I live in the UK (I was born and brought up in Scotland to be precise). We don't have a rating system as such - so I can't really say. I plan to start fencing internationally next year. I only do epee now - gave up foil 3 years ago. Better fnecer now than. Sickness last year meant I missed out on 2 or3 major tourneys so I won't be able to recover my ranking till the next fencing year. -
I'm E00 in sabre. I don't really fence any other weapon (except for laughs). After a year of being a once-a-week fencer, I increased my training schedule and started competing last spring. The biggest tournament I've been in so far was this year's Summer Nationals (Div I-A and II). -
I'm but a humble unclassified in foil and epee. Getting a rating before the 2000-01 season is over has been my goal. I'll gladly trade my right hand for an "E". -

Array I'm ranked 14th in Australia and 3rd on a State level in foil. Biggest comp I've been too is the Australian Open nationals. Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls! -
I'm ranked number one in the hearts and minds of millions of adoring American fans! Woo hoo!

Array Don't give up Rick. I've been an unclassified sabrest for almost six years. I was really not looking forward to going into Veterans next year unclassified.
Finally, last month I won an unclassified meet and got my E00 in sabre. I think losing 20 lbs and getting into shape helped more than I thought. Now I can concentrate more on my opponent instead of wheezing like a sick rhino in the DE's.
(Sorry, went off-topic) I'm here in Colorado, USA and the highest I've competed in is Sectionals. If the pen is mightier than the sword, the writer must have a heck of a reach!! -
hi
Ive lived in sevral countries, for the time being we're in Switzerland. My best result was fourth in foil in Wittenheim (France). Switzerland and France were fighting each other. -

Well Link, thanks for the encouragement. But I was just hoping I could catch destiny taking a nap... I'd gladly give my right hand because I fence left-handed. -

Array Originally fenced in France, Normandy. Then moved to France, Alsace-Franche Comte. I was on a study-sport program as a Cadet and 1st year of Junior, so I was fencing at the National Level. Then went to college, were I could not fence much, unless in the University events.
Never got into any serious lesson program until I moved to California about 10 months ago. Now I am a B00 in epee, and that's all I fence. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

I'm unclassified and will be fencing foil next month- my first competition in 22 years, that is if a snowstorm doesn't get in my way. I belong to the Hudson-Berkshire Division, in upstate New York- USA. 22 years ago I fenced intercollegiately- seems like yesterday! I returned to fencing in October this year. I live to fence and fence to live!! -
I'm a C00 in foil and C00 in epee and just last year started traveling to some tournaments outside my division (Arizona, in case you didn't catch that from my name). I mostly fence foil and just sort of accidently got the epee rating.
Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas and the Long Beach Invitational in Cal are great tournaments for people who aren't quite looking for NAC competitions but want a challenge. Sectional events are great and I definitely admire sections who've got their act together enough to organize big tournaments. I've been to two NACs now and found them great learning experiences! Array Gav
British ranking lists at all weapons (Senior, Junior and Cadet) on British Fencing website. If you fenced at Scottish Open, Edinburgh Open or Inverclyde you should be able able to find your name in there somewhere. If you fenced outside Scotland and did anything of note you'll probably find yourself a bit higher up the ranking list.
