I don't think it's so uncommon to give lessons without the mask in Europe. I remember seeing Mihaly Csikany giving a lesson to John Hallsten with John not wearing a mask. I asked him to put one on, as they were doing the lesson in my club.

I have my fencers have mask and jacket. I hit, and sometimes hard, when I give a lesson.

When I was coached by Maestro Lejos Csiszar at Penn in the 50's it was not unusual for the student not to wear a mask. Maestro did, but then I was fencing Sabre.

BTW, Mangiarotti is head of the FIE Disciplinary Commission.

    Thank you

    SF Fencer,
Thank you so much for posting these wonderful videos. My first coach studied with Mangiarotti, among others, so it warms my heart to see these images.

    Thanks again,
    Mike
