So who will be on the US teams?
The only thing that is clear is that Jed Dupree and Andras Horanyi are going for Individual Men's Foil and the Hurley sisters ( Kelley & Courtney) in Individual Women's Epee. No surprises there.

| I appreciate the link, but it doesn't tell who we sent, just who is at the top and eligible to go. Likewise the World University Games ~ I know the Hurley sisters are not going there, but for Men's Sabre, James Williams is. I also heard that Jed did not go to the Pan Am games.
I hoped the USFA would post a list of the fencers going. No emotional investment, don't really know any of the fencers in the top 10, just curious. |

| I'll be there shooting it. I'll try and get some info posted on fencing.net depending upon my internet connection.
We will presenting photos from the Pan Am games later in July/early August, along with a four-continent grand prix tour feature. |

| Women's Foil I know that 3 of the 4 top women's foilists took a pass and that there were several other invitations extended that were also declined (there were 3 world cups plus Summer Nationals in June so everyone was rather traveled out and there were no points to be gained at Pan Am's). There was some talk of only having individual fence and not fielding a team. Not sure how it played out. |

| Did you notice the name of his brother, the one holding the weapon? Athos -- a great name for a fencer! |

| For women's sabre Emma Baratta, Alexis Jemal, and Eileen Grench are there.
For men's sabre Tim Hagamen and James Williams are there, not sure who else.
For men's epee it seems to be Benji Unger, Seth Kelsey, and Cody Mattern. I could be wrong about that.
I don't know anything else, except that the village is apparently cool and some aspect of the Pan Am games is supposed to be shown on Friday on some hispanic form of espn. |

| The Pan American games are being held on ESPNDeportes, which is the Spanish language ESPN for the US. They are carrying extensive coverage, including 2 1/2 hours of the opening ceremony and 12 hours or more daily. |

| Results, including individual pool bouts, are posted after completion. http://www.rio2007.org.br/data/pages...2C41550F77.htm
For some reason the men's foil doesn't show the scores of the pool bouts. Women's foil pool bout results are posted.
Clicking on the athlete's name shows a bio and photo if available. |

| It looks like Hanna Thompson took silver, with Mariana Gonzalez of Venezuela taking the gold, in Womens individual foil. |

Clicking on the athlete's name shows a bio and photo if available. | I was able to find the pool results, Seeding from the pools, tableau, etc.
The navigation has its own logic. If you click on the far right column you get a listing of the different type of result. Once you select pool results, you will see them within a black square, which has its own navigation arrows in orange immediately to the right. Also can enlarge, etc.

Originally Posted by jeff Oh, that's just the coverage fencing needs....I wonder if he was properly attired | Hi there. I am a Brazilian fencer and from time to time I like checking what's going on in this forum; guess I can add my 2 cents here: word is spread on the (almost non-existent) Brazilian fencing community that he was wearing a jacket but not a under arm protector, although Brazilian Fencing Officials deny this, stating he was using all protection equipment.
Nonetheless, there are other two curious aspects involving Brazilian fencing on the 2007 PanAm Games:
(1) The best male epee fencer was cut out from the competition because he did not met the Brazilian Fencing Association (the USFA equivalent) "athletics requirement" (all Brazilian fencers duly qualified for international competitions must pass a test which consists in running 3km in less than 12 minutes). This ended up in Court and up to this moment it seems like the BFO's position was confirmed.
[maybe you could comment on whether you believe such tests make sense or not. most fencers in Brazil strongly disagree with this requirement. I do not actually have a position on this, so any ideas are welcome.]
(2) A female sabre fencer was involved in a car crash one week before the beggining of the competitions and is no longer able to compete this year.
Well, anyway, one of our male fencers ended up 3rd in foil. Let's see how Athos does in epee tomorrow. |

Shouldnt the fact that they qualified for such tournaments be enough? I think a test such as that as a pre-requisite for being allowed to compete internationally is foolish. It's like saying in order to enter a pool tournament you must demonstrate the ability to roll a strike in bowling.
