Should be a piece of cookiedough. If not; ask someone who knows how to sew.

| sure it is. and if you care how it looks, you can always cut the old one out and totally replace it. that actually might be easier than attaching another length to the old strap, depending on your method of sewing.
PM me if you need any help; I do a lot of fencing sewing. |

| For easier discussion than "crotch strap", this part of the jacket is usually referred to as the cuissard, or cuissard strap.
Just sounds a little better.

as my current jacket fits great but the crotch strap kind of rides up a bit, drives me crazy! | Just remember the silly rule that the strap must be 3 cm wide. I have found the easiest way to get the 3 cm strap is to use 1 inch twill tape, found at almost any fabric shop, and double it displaced slightly.
one and one quarter inch tape or elastic will probably not be rejected and one and one half inch tape or elastic is more than wide enough.
Is it cuissard or croissard? Some one with more French than I is needed.

| really? i've always used 1" elastic and it always matched whatever strap I was replacing.
Do a few mm really make a difference to inspectors? |

Do a few mm really make a difference to inspectors? | It might at the Olympics or if Dan DeChaine is the SEMI rep at an international competition. Probably not at all in the US.
I just like to take away any of their excuses to harass people.

| Also make sure that you still have the required 10 cm overlap between the top of your knickers/britches and bottom of your jacket (just in case the reason the strap seems so tight is because your jacket simply isn't as long as your torso - more likely a problem to be a problem if you are young and out-growing clothes every time you blink). |

Are you sure this is not an USFA specific rule, or that you've messed up the conversion from inches (or whatever units you use) and centimeters..?

However since m.28 is the only place the strap width is specified, and that particular section only addresses foil lames there is no clearly stated standard for jackets or saber lames.
Another fine example of consistant rules from the FIE . |
