| Job:Fencer? I was looking at the FIE world rankings and the fencerīs profiles and I was surprised to see that quite a few of the fencers have another job other than being a fencer such being a lawyer, computer programmer, etc.I thought this was not possible since competitive fencing(high level that is) demands so much time and effort that itīs hard having another job, right? |

It involves having jobs that are very very flexible.
But in the US it's impossible to support oneself by just training to be a top athlete. You can join the military program, and pretty much do that, but that's....... not easy either. Otherwise, you could be from a particularly rich family, or you can work. Not a huge list of choices...

| it seems that computer programmer or lawyer wouldnt be the most flexible of professions, although you could fence every night afterwork and weekends
would that be enough?
and there are other commitments than just work |

| It doesn't strike me as surprising at all. I have not been in the sport for very long, but I would think that unless someone is some sort of fencing god, or at least from a very well off family, another means of earning bread and gear money would be necessary.
Fencing isn't as popular in most countries, especially America (such a shame), as other sports- say football/soccer, basketball or baseball, so we don't have a steady flow of rabid fans pouring into our salles and tournaments, or buying merchandise that endorses famous fencers. . . And other fencers buying said merchandise doesn't count.
PS: And speaking from experience, I work two jobs and I'm going to college, but I still fence. I know many others who are in the same boat (two of them are coaches.) at this point, fencing kind of becomes your social life.

| North Texas Div High. I got the feeling that Fencing will be more to me that a mild competition.
When I need Hope in my life,
The Epee or Foil is in my hand.
As I peer into the Pockets of a heavy golf club bag.
resting complete uniform, weapons, monkey and allen wrenches, body wires atheletic tape.
I feel worth,
Insight,
Fencing is no casual aquaintence,
It is Gods Purpose for my Life. |

I like your use of the word 'spouting' I can see myself spouting things. And, lemon_fresh, I think we all know the obvious answer to your problem! =D
Get her to fence! I mean, dueling is a great way to settle lovers quarrels!

It doesn't necessarily mean they actually work for them, but that they are sponsored by them, attend the STEAUA (Romanian Armed Forces Sports School -- eqv.) or are somehow engaged in the voluntary forces or the similar.
