Thanks for the tips on bruising. Don't worry Link, quitting sabre is NOT an option in my mind. "You'll take away my sabre when you pry it from my cold, dead (and yes BRUISED) fingers" I don't particularly care for potato skins, but I'll conduct a personal experiment to see if potato chips have the same healing effect. And Flik - That thing about the cat was supposed to be a secret!!!

Sorry, but I fence epee, and all the people I know that fence epee are just as violent if not more than the saber fencers. They fence epee to "curb the evil within them". Okay, and yes to the cat thing. What? I was five...and it was...there. And the pulling wings off insects...never make a seventh grader do an insect collection, it just doesn't work! But not all epeeists are stupid...I doen't no wheir u gaut theat ideea.

Do not underestimate the power of the dark side.

Sorry couldn't resist the predictable Star Wars joke.

Well, my stereotypes: Foilists are effete, as it is the most pretty, and they like the pretty fully-extended lunges and posing. Epeeists are criminals; they don't like rules.
Sabre uses the most upper-body strength, and tends to be (among the average and below-average fencers) two big, sunken-forehead, pronounced-eyebrow-ridges, hairy thugs banging each other.
And foil is fast, just not JERKy, like epee. Watch Anna Anguelova, or Tasha Martin. REALLY fast. Anna's a "runner-style" fencer, and Tasha's just got some quick attacks.

Oh dear, ohg dear, oh deary me.

Spruce bunch, why do you think epee is jerky?

Couldn't really give a toss for what anyone thinks about the different weapons - I'm just curious.

Well, you start an attack, then pull back due to a counterattack, then counterattack into the other guy's attack, which gets pulled back. A lot of that goes on. Jerk, jerk, jerk...see what I mean?

Very enjoyable reading! For my 2 cents:
Foil..? Boring? When and where? That is the game where physical chess comes to mind.
Epee--I agree, very bouncy, lots of feints, then a quick double touch. Where is the skill? Must be in who's the fastest. Point control must be easier..the whole body....
Sabre? The sabrists I know are very nice people, but when they get dressed in their fencing gear, they turn into screaming tyrants, dramatically influencing the director with their antics and scaring the rest of us while we're practicing when they let out one of their screams prior to bashing each other on the head. They are much fun to watch.
I'm sure you all can tell I'm a foil fencer, but I think each weapon draws to it a certain personality. Thank God for diversity!!
