| Amarillo Open Fencing Tournament Apparently there has been some confusion outside the Plains Texas Division regarding a local division tournament called the "Amarillo Roundup Fencing Tournament." I have been made aware that some people erroneously think that this new "Amarillo Roundup" is the AMARILLO OPEN on a new date.
The "Amarillo Roundup" is NOT the "Amarillo Open!"
The "Amarillo Roundup" is a new tournament organized by High Plains Fencing and has absolutely no connection whatsoever with Amarillo College Fencing Association or the Amarillo Open Fencing Tournament (formerly known as the Amarillo College Open Fencing Tournament or the AC Open), despite the similarity in the names of the tournaments.
Information on the Amarillo Open Fencing Tournament is on Ask FRED at: http://askfred.net/Events/moreInfo.p...nament_id=3491 |

| I think it is good to put information like WHO YOU ARE in the tournament information page on askfred. This Amarillo Roundup has none of this. We have to trust from your post that it is a High Plains event. Maybe this is one of those secret division changes that you have not been notified of? The plot thickens! |

| Anyway I think the purpose of this thread should be more about the Amarillo Open (formerly AC Open)
It's a great event and this year ACFA has moved it so thta it'll be a great warm-up/prep from JO's. |

| If you haven't checked out Ask FRED lately, you may notice that we have added Senior Women's Foil and Senior Women's Epee to our list of events at the 2008 Amarillo Open. We are also not having the Youth 14 events that we had last year.
We are also looking into a larger venue for the tournament. We have been using the Amarillo College East Campus Student Activity Center and it was just barely large enough for the tournament last year. Plus, it is far away from hotels and restaurants.
As soon as we know for sure we will publish the new venue on Ask FRED and email all preregistrants.
More information about the events, cost, location and pre-registration is on Ask FRED at: http://askfred.net/Events/moreInfo.p...nament_id=3491
Pre-register on Ask FRED at: http://askfred.net/Events/Prereg/pre...nament_id=3491
See who is coming on Ask FRED at: http://askfred.net/Events/whoIsComin...nament_id=3491

| The Amarillo Open is a great event. I know that some of our guys from DTFC will be there. I have to start telling them now or they may forget they are newbies after all. |

The current venue is a long ways out but we all know where it is now and with ya'll providing the option of getting a sack lunch it's not that big of a deal that it is a ways out.
What locations/venues are you looking at? |

What locations/venues are you looking at? | We will still be providing the option of buying a box lunch with a bottle of water for everyone who attends the Amarillo Open. Obviously, being closer to town will give everyone more lunch options.
If and when we make a venue change, we will announce it on this forum, the division website, the ACFA website, on Ask FRED and we will email all fencers who have preregistered and we will email everyone on our email list. |

| The 2008 Amarillo Open is next weekend. The venue has NOT been changed after all. It will still be held at the EAST CAMPUS of Amarillo College at the Student Activity Center. (EDIT: We do hope to have a larger venue for next year's (2009) tournament.)
Pre-registration is still on Ask FRED. Senior Epee has 40 pre-registered and Senior Foil has 33 and Senior Sabre has 14 (need 1 more). We also have Youth 12 events, Junior foil and epee, and Senior women's foil and epee. We currently have fencers coming from Plains Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and North Texas Divisions.
Heading our bout committee for the 3rd year in a row is Gerrie Baumgart. We also have Ed Richards coming as a referee this year.
For additional details go to Ask FRED.

| What hotels are your referees staying at? We are looking at getting a hotel this year for our fencers.
Thanks
Julie

Julie | Our referees are staying at the Baymont Inn on I-40 West in Amarillo. It also has a hot breakfast in the morning.
We picked up another referee today. Jerry Benson is coming (with three saber fencers not yet pre-registered on Ask FRED) to join our other "out-of-division" referees: Gerrie Baumgart, Ed Richards and Dirk Moonen. The remainder of our referees are from within the Plains Texas Division.
