How to keep the metal strips from chewing up shoes

Anyone have suggestions (other than changing technique or a plain ol' tape job) to save shoes from getting chewed up by the metal strips at SN? Alternatively, what shoes (like the old Assyms) have the best design to stand up to the foot dragging?

................ uh, if anyone is getting their shoes meaningfully damaged just from fencing at nationals, they REALLY need to think about changing technique.

That said, I haven't seen a whole lot of damage on Stabils, but I don't use mine on agressive floors enough so that I would be the one to ask (Thank god Smith Fencing no longer uses the evil practice space with the shoe eating floor...)

Vince will become famous soon enough
I have fenced on the "Cheese Grater" perferated aluminum sheets for 3 years, and my shoes are hardly even showing wear, except on the back foot, the inside sole is slightly rounded.

So, fixing the footwork is the best idea! But, to answer the question about the shoes, I like the new Hi-Tec Scimitar's theory, I don't own a pair, but they look like a good idea, although I would buy the Hi-Tec Blades, which are $40 cheaper.

Based on customer comments on the Hi-Tec Blades and Scimitars purchased from us and their comments on shoes that they had owned prior, the soles of the Hi-Tec's are much better suited to the wear of metal strips.

I own a pair of blades and if you decide to get them id highly reccomend replacing the insoles, as the ones that come with the shoe are horrible

they changed this when they came out with the scimitars the soles in these are very high quality super comfy and made by adidas i think

also there is more rubber on the scimitars, which will help with the wear and tear you are talking about

they pretty much fixed everything wrong with the blades, if i didnt already own blades and had to buy new shoes id definatley go with scimitars even though there is a price difference

I know people who have their local shoe repair guy sew an extra patch on the shoe when it starts to develop holes. Apparently there are some materials the shoe guys can use that are fairly tough.
