    hello

    Hello
My name is Matija Cupic. I am 10 years old and I live in Belgrade, in Serbia.
I have finished the 3th grade of primary school. I like math, play games on the
PC and fencing. I started traning fencing about 10 months. I like fencing (foil)
very much but during the summer vacation we have not got training lessons.
Would You be so kind to give me some advice about how to training by myself
during the summer hollidey until we start practice in September again?
Thanks in advance and best regards

Hey there! Let me be the first to welcome you.

Foil fencing? You're obviously a genius child! Foil fencing is the greatest.

One thing a lot of people will suggest is footwork. Lots and lots of footwork. That's really boring though, so I like to take a paper cup, and put string through it such that it hangs horizontally. Then I'll hang it somewhere and practice moving back and forward, lunging into the cup. It gets difficult when the cup starts swinging around! That's the poor man solution, atleast...

    Hi Matija,

as Lord Gorlock said, footwork, footwork, footwork. The swinging cup is also
a good idea. I do something similar, a baseball swinging on a string. I'm not
sure if you can find a baseball in Serbia or not but a tennis ball would work.
Although it's a little bit lighter than I like.

A pad on a wall is good as well. Either a piece of carpet or a bit of rubber, etc.
Extend and hit, lunge and hit, advance+lunge and hit. That will do wonders for
    your distance and point control.

Do that a few million times.

My son Nick practices to different kinds of music. He likes Aaron Carter's "I want candy", and his sister's Irish dance music. I think you could you what ever kind of music you wanted. Just my opinion.

Welcome Matija!! This is a great forum!!

Training in the off months? Footwork, footwork, footwork. Lord Gorlock's suggestion regarding the paper cup is a good one; it will improve your point control. Another thought is a stationary target that you could work with.
