| No, because I don't fence epee. Moreover, exactly how much closer is he to your valid target area than you to him? |

Anyway, it probably isn't that difficult to bugger up their distance anyway. Use bloody footwork, and let the blade do it's thing when it has to, not before.

| Bloody footwork sounds painful, not to mention a health hazard. |

| Can epeeists move their feet? I thought that was illegal during a bout. |

| So big deal. You use whatever advantage you have. Tall with a long reach; short but fast, etc. |

| Back to the original post... I'm gonna go with a no for my answer (slightly biased... being one of those tall fencer myself). But even as a tall fencer, I fence people taller than me on occasion and to be honest, no it doesn't bother me. Yes, it is difficult but that's fencing. Learn to control your opponents blade. Parry? I know I know... its epee... who parries in epee, well it happens. And above all... the wrist is a target (as stated before with the 0cm comment). I think unless you are amazing at it, foot touches are out of the question and if you really only know how to attack the torso, consider switching to foil? Oh yeah... and watch your distance too. Tall people (especially when posting a french grip... keep your eye out for that) like to make you think they're out of distance and then, yes, they use their reach to hit you first. Its not JUST height, its deception and strategy.
Ok... I've rambled enough...

| No, but I am sick of hearing people make excuses based on height. Like, "If you had been 2 inches shorter I would've won!" Uh huhhhhhhh.

| Being 6'8", I think the only touch that being tall takes away are knee/toe touches. You do that, I stick you in the face and you never get my leg. Other than that....I think people don't realize the advantage you have being shorter at getting shots on tall fencer's under arm.

| I fence in Bozeman, MT. I do have quite a few head touches compared to others, and I'm the only one that lunge-fleches for people's faces. However, hitting the head isn't always the smartest thing to do, although it is quite amusing.

| I got so tired of my super tall ex-boyfriend hiting me in the neck when we fenced epee (not my weapon, but hey, I got to hit him) that I decided to just bell him in the balls. Really hard. With a fleche. Acording to him, he was only doing it because my neck was at arm level for him. Yeah, right.

| yeah, I never aim for the neck or crotch. That's just mean. Hits to the mask may startle, but you really don't feel em. Not to say I never have done so, but it's frankly just not a good target. Chest, wrist, and knee shots are so much better.

It takes a hard parry or beat to get their blade clear, but then I can get a short-arm torso touch quicker than they can retract their arm far enough to hit me. These are fencers of about my ability level, though, not really good ones.

| Taller fencers are better because we are better endowed.
