Silly Last Minute Question:

So I haven't been able to get to a real hardware store (read: ine that carries metric screws) so I was wondering if any of you wonderful armoring types have some of the screws that are the right size for the visor mask plates in stainless that you'd be willing to make available for purchase in Miami? I know it's super last minute but great things happen on FNet. PM me. Please. Also, what's the right size for those again? I've forgotten. I think it was an M8 of some sort ?

Bring it by, we'll see what we can do.

What brand is it? The vendors may have what you need; most of them will be there.

Doubt it is M8, that would indicate a screw diameter of 8 mm which is almost exactly 5/16 ths of an inch.

I have seen some that were M3, 3 mm diameter. You were probably trying to recall M3 x 8 mm which would be a length of 8 mm. You also have to differentiate the head shape, I have seen some with Flat Head. Some brands also use nuts on the inside. The nuts I have seen would use a 5.5 mm wrench or socket.

If you really get caught short, non stainless steel screws are better than none, for a short while. And longer lengths can be shortened, particularly with a Dremel and a cutting wheel.

If you have a continuing problem of losing the nuts, then losing the screws, you should consider moving up to "locknuts". Although for those you may need a specialty supply store.

Thanks. I'll stop by. The problem isn't really losing screws or nuts so much as it's upgrading from the brass? copper? screws that come stock and strip easily. Also, at least with brands I've experienced the screws seem to be interchangeable between brands.
