| foil tip issues I'm curious if anybody has an ideas to help me out with a problem I've had recently with my foil tip staying attached. German tip, properly set in and everything...but every couple days the tip decides to go flying off. I've managed to find the tip itself everytime but keep losing the spring, and it's getting on my nerves. Any ideas, or any more information I need to give?

| I would say you are either trying to use the wrong screws or your threads in the barrel are so stripped out they will not keep the screws in place. Check on the screws to ensure they match the barrel (remember, some "French" and "German" parts aren't and that can mean they are not 100% compatible even if they look alike...) and if that is not it, probably time to rewire.

| This foil has been rewired recently, has been used approx. 10 days since it's rewiring. The screws were checked the first time the tip flew out, threads were fine and tightened appropriately. Tip tape was put on tighter the 2nd time in case they were wiggling free. Got the tip kit from triplette, only the spring has changed at all, same tip as when it worked before. I used it for a tournament the weekend after I rewired it, it worked fine the whole time. It's only been in the past month that it has done this.

| Yes, Purple Fencer. Only the top part, tip, and the spring of course is firing out as well. But the screws are still in place.

Remove teh screws (put a finger over teh barrel, 'cause there are still parts in there that may fly away), pull out the collar & flange. Put them back on, then lay the tip face down and find something to swage teh end of the shaft (ithat will deform the very end so it locks the flange on). You can swage with a spring loaded nail punch, or with a fine nail set punch and a hammer.
I have swaged all the tips I've been getting for a couple of years now...since the manufacturers can't be bothered to do the job properly in teh first place. |

| I am not sure if fencers should be expected to swage points, I sugest you start again with a point top which is made in one part. who make them like this? I wonder? |

| Thank you Purple Fencer, I'll give that a try. Been having bad luck with this foil since I got it. I initially bought it from Leon Paul (Vniti), but within one tournament the weapon was giving intermittent lights when the tip was depressed. Hence the rewiring in the first place. Hopefully this will fix the problem.

| If it was faulty we would have replaced it or repared it. If you did have to rewire it drop Bill a line at leonpaulusa. and at the very least he can send you a repacement wire, or return the blade and we will rewire it free. |

| It's no big deal at this point, I would probably have persued that option, but I didn't have the time to wait for it to be sent back and then returned. Thanks for the option though, Barry. I still go through you guys for all my foil needs.
