Stenciling question- I guess this is the place for it

My faithful old sabre lame just died on me recently after 4 years of use, and I have given it a Viking burial. I haven't got time to get my new lame stenciled before nationals, so if I brought it the day before my event, would it be ready in time the next day? This is probably a stupid question, but it's been a long time since I've had to have anything stenciled and I don't remember.

Yes. They can do same-day stenciling. Depending on matters, they can probably do same hour stenciling, but that's rather risky.

IIRC, if you don't have to fence the day you give it to them, it slides to the bottom of the priorities. You could pick it up the next morning.

yyzrocks is on a distinguished road
I went to a fencing tournament (Epee and Foil) and they told me this the day before: Stenciling is REQUIRED. I had to stencil it myself with acrylic paint. It took me all night! Some people even put tape on the back and wrote their last name on it! Somebody's tape got on my tip and they were FRUSTRATED! I don't know about your question though!

Oddly enough, the USFA Rules state that names printed on tape are not acceptable.

Armorers often carry a washable blue marker for emergencies. The rules don't say it has to be pretty; it just specifies height and block letters and color...

Handwriting with a marker is acceptable. If you use a washable marker you can get through the tournament, wash the marker out and then have it stenciled professionally. You MUST use a stenciling firm that knows how to stencil fencing lames. I recommend Marx if your fencing supplier doesn't offer the service themselves.
