Has anyone found a good site or station for Olympic fencing??

If anyone has anything that might bring news pics or even coverage onto the Internet or onto some obscure cable TV station post it so we can all enjoy.
And all you Aussies, we expect full attendance and bring your Digital cameras and laptops so we can get the play by play of Cliff Bayer winning the Gold!

Eric Dew has mentioned that he and Peter Gustaffson (in Sweden) were working on getting tapes of Eurosport's English-language coverage for distribution here in North America, as they've done with World Championships for the last few years (any more word on this, Eric?).

Other than that, you'll just need to hunt aroung the web for pictures on news and sports sites. Folks in North America are pretty much SOL for TV coverage-- NBC and the CBC have the exclusive coverage contracts for the US and Canada, so nobody else is going to be allowed to air any Olympic coverage except for whatever news-clips are made available (and you can bet that NBC has an army of lawyers-who-eat-raw-flesh to make sure of that). CBC looks like they'll do a better job of coverage (three words: no Pat O'Brien), but there's still no fencing on their schedule.

Last night I was watching the opening ceremonies after I got home from fencing.

I saw TWO commercials that had fencing in them! TWO! We may not get any coverage, but we have commercials! I just about fell over.

The other was a Texaco one. "Texaco: proud sponser of employees who works with kids' programs" kinda thing. It showed a line of fencer in full gear lined up doing drills for about all of three seconds. I was kinda surprised too. Still disappointed in NBC. No fencing by we can see men's and women's trapaline, whatever that is supposed to be.

There is also the Tiger Woods Olympics commercial, in which he pokes a sabre fencer and a light comes on. It lasts about 1/8th of a second so set you VCR's.

I watched the fencing on Eurosport. It was ok. The replays are the best bit, thing is they always seem to choose the wrong angles for the action. The commentary was a bit ropey at times though.

We've had two or three commercials recently that feature fencing:- a car ad,a couple of Addidas ad's and also the sponsorhip bit for the comedy show Frasier!

It's a bit weird that virtually no-one is willing to show fencing as a sport yet think it can endow quality to an advert.

Yeah, if you find anything more about EuroSport, let me know.
Also, for tapes of stuff, try www.fencingfootage.com. Mike Aufrichtig sells tapes of a number of competitions. Quality varies, but it's valuable with whatever quality.
