Leon Paul USFA items

http://www.leonpaulusa.com/fencing/a...ded_items.html

what is the deal with those? Anyone have more info... like:

- do they just cary the LP name and are made in USA with who knows what?
- weapons are with LP blades and points?

I'm on the verge of buying my first competition kit and this seem like a very good prices for LP stuff + the free shiping it be great. Don't think anyone have experience with those since they poped out like yesterday or today on the website i think but any info will be apreciated?

thanks

odds are they're LP stuff with USFA slapped on it. so, no. they were made in the UK. and since its being sold at the LP store, the blades and tips will almost definitely be LP.

This looks like part of the deal announced with LP and the USFA. USFA branded fencing equipment was specifically mentioned.

new equipment requirements?

All fencing uniforms must carry a robust usfa logo.

It's good to see they meet the 350N standard given the proposal before the Board. (Specifically, if it were to pass the USFA would look rather silly with its own brand of gear not in compliance.)

I wonder how these compare to the regular LP gear.

$79.90 for the front zip jacket and $79.90 for the 350N mask?

Hard to tell just from the pictures without more descriptions or corresponding reference numbers, but if the jacket is a rebranded 005 and the mask a rebranded F100C, that's not bad at all.

If you could, you'd have to probably endure the mockery of your fellow brits for wearing USFA branded gear, no?

I will ask the powers that be and see if I can post a review of the new USFA LP kit. It is pretty spiffy stuff with some interesting properties. My current fencing summer camp is eating up most of my time however, so I doubt I would be able to post anything detailed or specific for a couple of days...

Did either of the Paul brothers want to chime in? I'm sure a post here would ensure a lot of free advertising from forum members.

Are you refering to the Paul brothers of old... Barry and Graham, my Fathers generation or Ben and I?

FYI Graham is no longer involved in the business so it is Barry and my Mum sorry MOM (I am getting the hang of this USA thing!) who head up the company.

That said you could be refering to Rene and Raymond who were my grandfathers generation...

Back to topic.

I am in the process of posting more info at the moment.

The gear will be available to look at during the Nationals but we are unlikley to have enough to sell as we have been somewhat pressed for time.

The prices are almost definately as stated on the site but may change a bit.

In Summary:

All kit made to European 350 Newton standards, we didn't want to sell stuff in the US that we wouldn't sell in the UK. We could have made a cheaper mask and uniform with stretchy material you can poke a pencil through but we didn't think it would be fair even if it would have been cheaper for you guys.

New jacket and knickers not based on our club range but VERY good and amazing for the money.

New blade, made in our forge to a new design and black like the Poz pro saber blades were.

New mask painted rather than nylon dipped and stainless steel. Contour-fit as standard, stomps all over the competition at that price. :STOMP SMILE:

Bag... it's a bag... with a pocket... and a logo

Glove, it's a glove with a logo... stretch, Velcro cuff yaddah yaddah...

Grab Bag... its a smaller bag to separate out your uniforrm from weapons. You grab it out of your big bag so you can take it to the washing machine. Get it "Grab bag" because you grab it, neat name huh?

These products are great in summary. I think they really do offer you top quality at a great price.

Other products may be added as time goes on. Not epees for a while I don't expect.

I hope release will be at the end of June but please don't count on it. The deal was only finally signed with the USFA just before the Magazine release so we have not had a lot of time to get this ready to launch...

I thought a Biro was the appropriate testing device for that?
