As to your question on how to pick a blade, price, quality, stiffness, whippiness etc et etc -- all of this has been discussed in numerous threads. At least one of them currently ongoing, actually.
There's a search function which will help you find most of the things you ask questions about.

| If you're talking non-FIE epee blades, buy an StM.....it's the exact same blade, only with Allstar's name stamped on it...same for Uhlmann.
Why pay more than you have to?? |

| I have 2 stm sabre blades (s-2000) but their quality seem to be interesting. One is 10g heavier than another one. The weight is ok (FWF is lighter). It's very flexible (for stm foil, it is amazingly flexible).
I have 3 (s-2006) pbt gold blades and they are extremely heavy to the extent that it could reduce the speed of your attack. I used them for practice only.
I have tried the Uhlmann BF mg and it lasted for 5 years. Can anyone tell me the weight of it or if it is heavy as I forgot it?
I used to have an FWF blade. It was light. It was broken by my friend tho.
(the name FWF always confuses me. It reminds me WTF as I always swear)
I'm looking for a light (as weight, stop thinking of Star War) sabre blade. I was told that BG sells light blades and I would like to try but I do not live in the US. |

| Oh no, don't do that.
SG is NOT St George. Two different entities. St. George is the source for machines. SG, which is a sidekick of Blue Gauntlette, sells the same equipment as BG. To make matters worse, you can get a St. George machine from SG Fencing.
I've often wondered about the origins of SG, and why BG needed another brand. Someone told me that is was so they could get two tables at NACs. They seem to have made SG the wholesale brand in everything other than NACs. |

| My bad. I asked Jimmy about it at Summer Nationals last year and he said that SG was the international arm of BG. I tried to ask about the St. George thing, but couldn't understand the answer. |

I thought that the Allstars (as well as others like Triplette) were BF. I thought STM was a different animal (Russian made).
I am pretty sure of this...

| A check on the Allstar website (.de, not usa) shows that in foil, they carry BF and Scaroni (FS) FIE blades, and in epee they carry BF and STM FIE blades. Of course Allstar and Uhlmann are the same company now, and they bought the Scaroni forge. Their non-FIE blades are not marked with a forge, so we can't tell who makes them. |

| S+M is Ukrainian. Although some may say that is the same thing.

Rick | Yep....for the non-FIE epee blades, they;re b5randed StM blades...
1) They are identical
2) Confirmed by Fencing Post, who buys a LOT more blades than I do.
The BF blades are the FIE ones. |

The BF blades are the FIE ones. | I just bought two non-FIE epee Allstar blades from Blade that are exactly like Triplette's (which are BFs) and are not like STMs at all. I'd swear they are BFs, even without the comparison to the Triplette ones.
Since it appears Allstar Europe sells both, maybe they port them over here for different distributors using a deriviative strategy and (e.g. Tripplette, Blade are BFs and the Fencing Post are STMs - all with the Allstar branding).

| Or maybe they have supply agreements with both, and ship whatever is in stock, or who is offering them the cheapest price when they order. |

That's why I no longer sell Uhlmann Ultra epee blades....why rip off my customers at twice the price when it's really an StM?? |

| If all that were not complicated enough, at various times Uhlmann and/or Allstar have also sold LM and Vniti blades under their name and with their stamp in the past. So the year of manufacturer can very well determine what forge your "Uhlmann" or "Allstar" blade came from.
Just FYI to Black Night, FWF does not make their own blades. They resale/private label PS/Chevalier and BF blades with their stamp. Same for PBT. Depending on which country you by PBT blades in, they are either StM, BF or LM.
Remember, there are only a handful of forges out there, especially for FIE blades. The only full line vendor I know that makes most of their own blades is Leon Paul. Actually I guess I should add Uhlmann/Allstar to that list now that they own the FS forge, although I am not sure if they are treating it as their in house forge or if they are letting it run as a stand alone forge and selling those blades to other vendors.

I don't know of anyone else that is currently carrying that line of blades except for those two companies, but I don't think that is because of that forge being the "property" or under the direct control of the AF or BG folks. It is possible I may have misunderstood the situation regarding how that is set up. If your understanding is different let me know and I will check into it.
