| fencer's club A number of nationally known coaches are leaving the Fencer's club. They intend to establish their own club (s). This is major shakeup and will have reprocussions on the National scene. |

Wow... tell us more. C'mon. Is "K" one of them?

| While I don't speak specifically for the Fencers Club, Inc. (not "Nyfc" by the way), I can provide some more information.
Effective this September, Kornel Udvarhelyi and Buckie Leach are leaving to start a new club, which will be located in Manhattan. The club will focus exclusively on Foil and Epee (no Saber).
To my knowledge, the departure is on good terms - obviously the Fencers Club is sorry to lose two excellent coaches, but this development is not the result of any sort of melodramatic event. It's no secret that Fencers Club has been very crowded (with a long waiting list for membership) for some time, and now two coaches are partnering and striking out on their own.
The timing is poor as it is two weeks before Nationals, however since Fencers Club is going to be relocating in the near future K + B needed to let the Club know immediately so they can factor the personnel changes into their plans. Unless something changes in the next two weeks, both coaches (and their students) will still represent Fencers Club at Nationals.
Yuri Gelman is also leaving the Fencers Club, however, I am not aware of the circumstances.
Note - Kornel officially informed us (his students) of this on Tuesday, and made it clear that this is not a secret, but can be made public.

| Interesting. It certainly has been crowded, so this sounds like a reasonable development. Where are they looking to relocate?

| Sabre Coaches My understanding is that Yuri Gelman is leaving FC. That still leaves M'ikael Sankofa on the sabre side. |

| Holy Crap! The epee people are left with no coach, and the most talented sabre coach is leaving as well! Buckie is obviously extremely talented as well, but at least the FC has a ridiculous number of talented foil coaches... |

| So has Yuri announced what he is going to do? Is he going to start a club of his own?

| Hey, the good news is that the waiting list just got shorter.
Now if one of those great coaches realized that going across the river to north Bergen county was a better opportunity...
There is gold in them there hills.

| From my understandings of the dynamics of coaching migration, this can only be a good thing for everyone and fencing in general. FC will quickly recapture any lost revenue from fencers joining their coaches to the new clubs. The new clubs will get new fencers as well (mainly because the demand is so high that FC can't accommodate newcomers).
One alternative would have been to franchise the name. I personally hate the concept of franchising, but that's an issue for the water cooler talk rather than the fencing forum.

| Although, one could argue that such an experiment could have been timed so as not to happen a year before the Olympics...

| Eric brings up a very good point... this has to be good for fencing overall, if the long waiting list is any indication of the demand for fencing in NYC.
How about opening McFCs? (Fatfencer is cringing)

It's actually a good time if you're thinking of a cycle of development for the next Olympics after that.
What's going to happen with the PWF?

| From what I have heard, PW stays at Fencer's Club, although at least a couple of PW sabre fencers are moving to new sabre club. |
