Mask cleaning Hi gang,
Although I just cleaned mine yesterday, I was wondering anyone had any tips on cleaning masks without detachable bibs. I ended up taking some laundry detergent and a small scrub brush to it which seemed to work all right - it certainly *smells* better
Any ideas on good cleaning products, et cetera? Someone in our club tried vinegar with the disasterous effect of rusting part of his mask.
Cheers,
Dragoneye.

Array The best trick I have found is take a large bucket and fill it with soapy water, laundry detergent works fine. If you have some yellowing, add some lemon juice. Then dunk it in holding on to the brace in back and just pump it up and down. You can let it sit and soak for a while if really grimy. When finished rinse with the water hose. I do it outside as the water tends to slosh some.

Array Guys!
Dont wash your mask. that is the smell of battles past- glorious victories and earth shaking defeats. Dont clean it. savor it, love it. become one with the stench...... besides no one will ask to borrow your mask anymore Whatever doesn't kill you, is gonna leave a scar...

Array Throw it in the dish washer: fast, easy and hands off. I've never put it in for the dry cycle though, I usually pull it out and use a towel to squeeze out whatever excess water there is and then hang it on the back of a chair to dry. The dry cycle might work, but I didn't want to destroy my mask to find out. -

Array Ditto on Cutter's suggestions, but the last time I did it, I blew it dry with a blow drier. I was worried about the mesh rusting. If the pen is mightier than the sword, the writer must have a heck of a reach!! -
I tried my mask in teh dishwasher once and had to get a new mask. The mesh loosened enough that it no longer passed the punch test. I think it was the water temperature that did it. So be careful with the dishwasher. -

Wow! Dishwasher! I'll try it on mine next time.
BTW I noticed all above are posted by male. Just an observation, no offence. -

Array Ditto on what cutter does.... 'cept I use Amway LOC (absolutely wonderful stuff). I then rinse in lemon, squeeze with chamois and dry with hairdryer.... though I'm tempted to try the airing cycle in the dryer. Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls! -

Array Careful EastWing.....Cutter may have an extra hint of testosterone, thus explaining her love of sabre , but I'm pretty sure she competes in Women's Sabre events. If the pen is mightier than the sword, the writer must have a heck of a reach!! -
