| Your Old club-Where are they now?-the Reunion Thread I can't imagine that this hasn't been tried before, but I have not found a similar thread by searching.
If you have been fencing for a long time you have roots. Your first fencing club.
Now years later do you wonder where all of the members have gone?
Still fencing? Dead? Alive? Other.
So here goes:
I am interested to hear about:
NTSU (UNT) fencers ~1974-1981
any Ex IFCS = Itenerant Fencing and Chowder Society
NT Division members `1974-1983
Roll Call: who is out there? So what was your Club, and who slipped off your radar? Do we have common acquaintances? What about that "6 degrees of separation" theory? Just how big is fencings social net?

| Texas fencers I'd like to hi-jack the thread and extend to all Texas fencers from late '60's through '90's. As we typed last night, Ancient one, it's sad to think the "Ancient One" is too young to remember my peers........

| I'm amused by how RecSports used "Unattached" to mean "Not a member of a Fraternity". Can anybody picture this announcement at Summer Nationals:
"Will the Team Captains from Alpha Phi Omaga Men's Saber and Beta Tau Chi Men's Sabre please report to the Team Table..." |

Once or twice I attended tourneys hosted by IFCS, but I doubt anybody remembers me. I could post a high school fencing photo when I was half the man I am now ... literally, but then again...maybe not. |

| Yeah-post a picture. I think I might remember you from the Dallas Open (later Duel at Dallas). I directed a lot of the foil bouts then.
I was lucky enough to get a few lessons from M. Nevot. I wish I had more access back then.
Daniel Nevot and Saint Marks was famous for producing fencers that showed up out of nowhere and beat up on everyone for a few tournaments then diasppeared as they moved on to higher education.
So you may have known:
David Ladyman, Rick Lawrence, Chuck Helms, Bill Bloom, Paul Schmidt, David Leviton, Matt Lipton, Walt Ingram, John Ewton, Robert Brown, Glen Mai, Brad Davis, Marla Custard, Clay Bradfield.
In my first-ever foil tournament, Dr. Degall's beginners foil tournament at SMU, he asked me if I was one of Nevot's students. I took that as a great compliment.
Perhaps we will meet up at at Vet's tournament next season as I work my way back into this crazy sport.

| UT fencers as I continue to try to high-jack this post, I'd like to know something about:
John Hillier (he and I would each win a tournament in order (him, me, him, me) except I always won the big ones (Mustang Invitational, College State Championship, Intermurals, etc)
Nik Nak (sp) (a Vietnamese engineering student from UCLA that gave me many hours of fun fencing when he moved to Austin from LA)

I did train with Ralph Faulkner and Okawa, though............

It turns out we did fence back in 1977 at a division qualifier--epee.
I think we are foil people now, yes?

Daniel Nevot and Saint Marks was famous for producing fencers that showed up out of nowhere and beat up on everyone for a few tournaments then diasppeared as they moved on to higher education. | That describes me pretty well. Got 2nd at J.O.'s, went to college & stopped fencing ~ 25 yrs. I would love to contact M. Nevot and let him know that I'm back at it. If you have any info, PM me.
Paul Schmidt, Chuck Helms, & Ladyman I know. Paul Schmidt and I practiced mano a mano for hours at a time. Now I have to figure out who you are, Ancient One. http://www.fencing.net/forums/attach...1&d=1181954096

| Nothing wrong with the haircut per se, it just firmly establishes the time period even better than the jacket does. I get my hair cut in a little barbershop run by an old guy who bought it from the original owner, who opened in in the late 1940s-early 50s. One of the original customers (who stayed on until at least somewhat recently) was a participant in the Great Escape.
You just can't get stories like that at SuperCuts. |

I did train with Ralph Faulkner and Okawa, though............ | This one is for you Luz.
Okawa at the Marathon Epee Tournament November 1979. He took 5th both days in what is now an A4 tournament.
I should explain the Marathon Epee format was the same event twice, once Saturday and Once Sunday with daily and overall Awards, so Okawa was 3rd over 2 days.
The twice over format was great because it made the travel expense even more worthwhile since you got two A4 tournaments for the price of one, and an second shot if Saturday didn't go so well.
The tournament drew 70 to 90 fencers from all over the US and some from Europe, about 25% A's. Before the NAC was well-developed it was a great way to put a local tournament on steroids. ahem well NOT STEROIDS, das ist verboten.
Left to right you have Okawa, Director John Fitzgerald, and Bob Nieman. If you have a good eye you can find Tim Glass, Risto Hurme and Bob Hurley lurking in the background.
