Before I trained under him, I actually beat him in a competition! Just a 5 touch bout and in the lower rounds, but I beat him.
I've got lots of Bob Hurley stories, if anyone wants them.......

| Ok.
That IS impressive. Okawa was like fencing against lightning, except he did strike the same place more than once.

| Ok, here I am behind the mask.
In the attached picture I am fencing John Moreau about 1980.
Left to Right Paul Pesthy, Robert Marx, Me, John Moreau.
3 Greats and one not-so-great.
Final Score Moreau 2, and 5 for me.
For the not-so-ancient that means I lost.

| It seems I'm always "lurking in the background" .
I fenced at Sebastiani in Houston- Spoke with Al Peters a couple of weeks ago. I saw Michel Sebastiani last year- and of course Nancy Anderson is always around. Nancy's parents lived in San Antonio and hosted very nice dinners (when we had the time).
The events in San Antonio were always good ones-Modern pent usually had some international fencers come in for the big events.
Any of the Sebastiani fencers on f.net?

For the not-so-ancient that means I lost. | that picture has to be in the Pentathalone Salle in San Antonio. I spent many hours there. Had to fence epee mostly, but it was still good training. I recognize Robert and paul.

| Ahh. I assumed you were referring to the most recently posted picture, the one with Paul Pesthy in it.
BTW, Risto still fences regularly and shows up to tournaments all the time. His wife June decided to start fencing a few years ago and has won a Vet NAC. |

tim | As I recall, you were the National Champion that year.
And where are the Sebastiani fencers?

By the way, I'm still making hay over here with a little sequence of actions you taught me back in Chicago. Nobody seems to be aware of it, except the French olympian of your vintage who nailed me on it. |

I don't think so. Looks a little small for it to be me.
Can you refocus and blow it up?

Good to hear that you are still fencing- I haven't changed my style much, my fencing actions now are a little slower than in those days.

| Unidentified #1 looks much more like the height I associate with Kyle, though I have no idea what his hair looked like then. |

Also, he kept his hair shorter than the rest of you hippies.

| Maybe, but he is wearing Patrick Shoes, which were all the rage for about 1 year. I don't remember seeing Nieman in anything but Adidas.
Isn't it strange how fencers can identify fencers just by non-facial characteristics?

Remember Hiek Hamberzumians' prime attack? Or Peter Westbrooks' beautiful parrys? Natalia Clovis' duck like walk? These things you can recognize accross a room.
