The AHF is hosting the Weekend of the Rapier January the 19th, 20th and
21st. This event will be injunction with the International Order of the
Sword and Pen. To be held at the Johnson Center at George Mason
University, located in Northern Virginia, just outside the Beltway. The
university is 25 minutes from Dulles International Airport. The weekend
will be one large intensive workshop on the Italian School(s) of Rapier.
It will include beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes. The
seminar/workshop will include but not be limited to, drawing the weapon,
concepts of tempo, effective use of distance, close quarter combat, the
tactical/philosophical difference between a duel and a street fight.
Various weapons combinations will be included, such as rapier and dagger,
rapier and cloak, rapier and buckler, and case of rapiers. We stress that
all classes will be on historical fencing technique. To clearly illustrate
the two completely separate disciplines of stage combat and historical
fencing, Brad Waller, Artistic Director of IOSP will be teaching a
workshop, as well as demonstrating how the historical techniques are
applied in stage combat. On Sunday the Rapier Tournament will be held in
the Ballroom of the Johnson Center. Time will be set aside for free
fencing and an open forum. All details, information and application forms
will be posted on the AHF website
Http://www.ahfi.org by the 21st of this
month. We are sorry for the short notice, but the organizing of such
events from long distance is difficult. We thank Brad Waller for all his
work in helping make this event possible.
