vicepang:
Choose A as the best option.
If you want option B here are the details for a foil wire: Never said it was easy.
1. Remove the brass contact from the cup from an old wire
2. Using a file and vise, flatten down the bottom end flush
3. Using a very-very small drill bit, drill a hole dead center, dont worry if it goes all the way through.
4. Now comes the hard part. You need some double insulated 28 awg copper wire. I use a 28 mm 155c triple insulated wire. You can order the wire from: Myself, Swordmasters (also mine) LP, or Negrini. Do me a favor, there are those that will tell you about a wire that is ready to use from Radio Shack. Dont use it. Its poopy wire. More problems than its worth in my opinion.
5. Cut the wire to the length of a foil wire. I cut mine at 43". Its a little longer than the German normal wire, yet there is more to work with.
6. Tin one end of the wire: Heat your solding iron up, use a 40 watt soldering iron. Put a bubble of solder on the tip, take the wire and quickly submerge it into the bubble of solder and quickly pull it out. You will notice that the end is not tinned. If you tin just a small amount, this is good. If you tin too much, this ok, just cut it back. You really only need about 1/16" tinned.
7. Soldering time. take the brass contact with the new hole in it, place it in the vise with the bottom facing up. Take your soldering iron, put a very small amount of solder on the end of it. Place it on the contact to let it heat up, once its hot enough, place some solder in the new hole. Keep the solding iron on the contact, now, place the wire in the hole. Remove the soldering iron. Make sure the insulation from the wire is butted up against the brass contact.
8. You are going to notice a little extra wire coming out of the top of the contact, cut it off flush with the top of the contact. Give the wire a really hard tug holding on to the contact. Making sure you have a super good solder on the contact. If it pulls out, you get to do it all over again.
9. If you have a good solder joint, now, slip the plastic insulator cup on. Make sure contact seats fully at the bottom. Check right below the bottom of the insulator for any exposed wire or burned off insulation. This will cause a huge problem when you use the wire.
Your done!
Now for epee wires: dont try it. Way too hard. I have been working on it for a year now to figure out a easy process and have not found it yet.
Good luck
