| I wonder where NAC E is being considered for.
Most of the above shouldn't be too hard to get to for me. |

| When I spoke with Christine at Tucson, the Div II/III/Vet was between Reno (yay!) or Chicago (uhh...)
I might like to go to Chicago just because I haven't been there since the '88 Nationals. And then, it was in Evanston north of Chicago. Did take a ride to sight-see the city.
Reno would be nice because I can just drive up there. Have my car's stereo system geared for the iPod (not the cheapie FM transmitter system either), so it would be a comfortable ride, unless there's a snow storm like the one last year. I had to put on chains and drive the last 70+ miles at 25 mph. Killed the gas mileage of my Prius.

| All I can say is, they must have gotten some deal for Atlanta. |

Plus, the place won't be the equivilant of a blast furnace that time of year.

I would rather go there than Chicago, or Detroit.

She seemed like Reno wasn't a viable option because we've outgrown the Hilton and another venue with the necessary space was tough to find.
Just another datapoint to fuel the specualtion!

| Reno was really nice from a food perspective, but the 2 rooms, no loading dock and pillars in the second room really did suck. |

| *puts in vote for Div II/III somewhere as far east as possible.*
Why Reno? There's already a Div II/III NAC in Tuscon. Wouldn't having the two low-level events take place more than a state away make a little more sense?

Actually the distance between Tucson & Reno is 850 miles. The distance between Atlanta & Memphis, 390. |

| And I think a lot more people would prefer to go to Reno than to either Memphis of Atlanta. In Memphis, Elvis is dead. In Reno, he's opening at the Harrah's, the Hilton...

July 1-10, 2008 (Tue - Thurs) Summer National Championships San Jose, CA | It's nice to know VENUES for next year's tournament, but it would be great if the EVENT schedules were also posted. With the high cost of fuel and airline tickets, it would save fencers a lot of money to be able to look for inexpensive flights months ahead of time. |

| There's no relation between the time you make your flight reservation and the price. I've seen prices go down as you near the date, because the airlines haven't sold those seats, so they go for cheaper. Indeed, my flight to Miami for the SN is more than what others paid and they made the reservations after I did.
It's best to just assume you're going for the whole weekend.

| You can try using www.farecast.com
when considering travel. It attempts to forecast whether ticket prices for your trip are likely to rise or fall as the flight date approaches. No idea how accurate their algorithm is, and it doesn't work for all airports ( like, for example, Miami ).

| Roll the dice! If you feel like gambling.... www.site59.com for airfare and hotel in one price for up to 70% off. There are some great deals to be had-if you're willing to wait until the last minute. We've never been that brave.
The catch: you book one to two weeks ahead of time and its a package deal.
I've fooled around on the site and the prices are great-the hotels are nice and you can add a rental car inexpensively. |

I took a gamble and waited for it to stop telling me that prices would drop and probably saved about $30/ticket based on when I originally would have bought them. Now, I haven't looked since I bought the tickets to see if prices have dropped further; I'd feel better just not knowing. |

It's best to just assume you're going for the whole weekend. | That sounds simple, but not all of us can afford going for the whole weekend, paying for extra nights at a hotel and losing extra school days.
Sure. Prices go up and down, but with more time to look around, checking farecompare.com and other sites, the better our odds of finding reasonably priced flights.
The real question is why can't the EVENT schedules be determined early? All the numbers are available from previous NACs to predict turnout. What holds up the process of EVENT scheduling? |

| Chicago would be an awesome place for an event, but then again I am Biased. Who would want to go to Detroit for a NAC?

| The Schedule of events depends on a lot of factors, some of which are not always easily predicted:
1. Number of entries. This changes much more than you might think, especially for the events involving Youth/Juniors and Div 2/3 entries. Sometimes the number of entries changes by 10-15 percent from event to event especially when a new venue is used.
2. Number of available strips. This, of course, can be known before hand pretty easily.
3. Number of available referees for each day, and their weapons of expertise. Not always easy to predict.
I will say that I'm with EDEW on this: I've purchased tickets for events as much as 6-7 months in advance, and not saved any money compared to my teammates who purchased two weeks in advance. I've had the reverse happen as well.
It seems to depend a lot on where you're going (a hub, or non-hub airport) and when you are flying (weekends close to holidays, etc).
