    Team Events

My club has been talking about participating in the team event next year. There are three of us women, ratings: B, C and E, all of us over 13 years old. Is it necessary to have a fourth (alternate) team member? Can we change the team members between divisional qualifiers and summer nationals? Any advice for us? None of us are familiar with team events.
We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Under current rules: You do not need an alternate.
    Team members can be switched.

It is the club that qualifies, not the club members who participated in the qualifier. Having an alternate is like insurance, in case someone sprains an ankle.
    Whoopee! My avatar is back.

I know it's good to have a plan B, but we have a woefully small number of women in the club. In other words, we have exactly three women epeeists. I guess we could always kidnap a foilist, but that wouldn't be good for our results.

Maybe not, but it would be better (for your results) than having to withdraw because one of your fencers gets injured and can't fence.

    Just a thought.

Well, I'm thinking a better plan is to slap a women's chest protector on one of the males and add a feminine ending to his name. Voila!

Also, you will need to designate a team captain. If one of you three will be doing it, be sure to make it clear that the captain will also be fencing! Otherwise she won't be allowed to do so, and you'll be down to two members, and you won't be able to change that once the seeding is done. ( I speak from experience. )
Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you!

Get a fourth. I'm speaking after fencing a very frustrating league championship which we would have certainly won had we had a fourth. It is a huge advantage.
    Bon qu'à ça.

Thanks, Inq. You just saved us from totally screwing ourselves! [hug]
